Which it will never do. Its core is a P2W Korean MMORPG. It can be more lenient than the likes of Blade and Soul and Black Desert Online, but still P2W regardless.
F2P clownfish are constantly reminded that they should pay to skip. Dolphins pay small at first, then keep increasing their investment. Whales just throw in money to conquer whatever contents where gear that are matter, and they will always find a way to win-trading, which attracts win-trading sellers. Their title can be as meaningless as FF14's burger crown, but as long as it is rare and they have it, they don't care.
And, believe or not, whales are always the target audience, and a Korean MMORPG is always designed to milk whales and turn F2P into dolphins and dolphins into whales. A few thousands of players play without paying doesn't change its greedy core, and only attracts other players who think they can give a try without paying. Line, hook, and sinker.
But you have fun spending time/money in it, who can stop you enjoying it?
Since this looks like the thread for it, I'd like to vent just a bit about Lost Ark. I decided to give it a try, and made a Mage character. The intro promptly dropped in my lap that I'm not only the chosen one, but the double chosen one and the most special person to have ever lived among my kind at that.
Is there an MMORPG on the market that doesn't do stuff like this, aside from World of Warcraft? It's one of the few things I miss from that game—that your character who started from humble beginnings actually starts from humble beginnings. None of this "handpicked by God" stuff.
Except for all those times where you are severely harmed and/or almost killed.
You can try out Lord of the Ring Online. You're basically a "hero of another story". You will go where the fellowship doesn't venture, like Angmar in the North, Mirkwood in the West in first few expansions, until you meet up with the fellowship post-disband as you accompany the Rangers going South toward Helm's Deeps. You occasionally meet up with big names like Gandalf, Aragorn... and fight together with them, but for most of the time, you have your own adventure to do. You're the champion of your own story, but not a godly one like Warrior of Light.
For writing, up to Gondor, the writing is quality. The presentation is more wall-of-text and barely any cutscene compered to FF14.
LOTRO is a F2P with strange cash shop. You can grind cash shop currency to buy quest packs/expansion packs and can actually own every content without spending a penny, but I would suggest to pay sub to skim though some early contents and save points for necessary expansions.
Now if only anyone could log in my ffxiv so I don't lose my houses, since it's basically what I'm paying a sub for at this point...
I'm extremely spent, probably for a life time, on KMMOs but Lost Ark simply not being WoW and actually having some content to look at has made it more appealing than normal.
I've been addicted to Lost Ark since FFXIV has kinda died until the next patch. What servers did you guys pick? I'm on NA Kharmine
Who cares about Lost Ark? Elden Ring is where it is at!
(But no way to make a Lala....)
Pretty much. FFXIV is dead. Nothing to do at all, I doubt there will be much content with the next patch, unfortunately. I am not looking forward to island sanctuaries, I just see it as a novelty, and I am sure it will end up disappointing many players who think they are going to get instanced housing or whatever.
I rolled on Danube (NA EAST), I just picked whatever was at the top.
I'm on Karta (NA EAst). And to be honest I haven't even done Hydaelin EX yet but kinda lost interest, since by the time I was done with story and wanted to run it everybody was already done eith both clearing and farming it so whatever. And got tired of doing the weekly grind for now.
Its a souls game, those things are incredibly long winded. It will have a dedicated community for pvp and co-op. Always do.
Like, I have TOO many hours in this game, but I never balk from playing new releases that interest me. I don't understand why people only play this one game, if they are "gamers". There's an enormous selection to enjoy.
With my limited free time I still have months of levelling of alt classes to 90, and that's just to get 1 of each sub-type for the Class Role series. Still also have a series of dungeons and raids I've never done before and other content I never touched. My slow consumption of content means I won't have time for Elden or Lost Ark, and I'm okay with that. Not really into Souls Games and I've played quite a few Korean games in the past so their monetization models aren't for me long term.
WoW started doing that in the storyline though at least starting from Warlords of Draenor. You shift from just being another run of the mill adventurer to the champion. They even give you your own garrison which is supposed to be the only one… Layered on a million others of course. It progressively becomes more focused on you as the lone champion as the expansions wear on. You are even the lone chosen champion to travel through to the Shadowlands.
Yikes, Lost Ark died off pretty quick, its infested with bots now and queues for anything but endgame stuff is horrible now. Guess theyll slap that sucker onto mobile and move on, lol...
WoW is not exactly the most story-focused MMORPG. Far from it. But by that point in WoW, the player has done more than enough to deserve recognition. I'm talking about the beginning of the game. I don't need the game to start blowing my ego just because I finished character creation, is what I'm saying.
Died? EU servers still have long login queues, and even on my NA server, which is one of the emptiest and considering I play at times when most people sleep, I still always have to fight for gathering resources and killing enemies for quests, so crowded the game is.
As for the bots....like the previous poster said, hard to complain about bots when playing FFXIV, which I have yet to see matched by other games in number of bots running around.
Interestingly I was one that was super excited about Lost Ark and liking it, but it didn't last a week for me... Not because the game is bad, I really like it! It's just that FFXIV captured my interest at the moment, I'm addicted to doing mentor roulettes while watching videos on another screen. My Astrope is within reach and I'm having a lot of fun!
But I have noticed the game seems a bit dead... Sharlayan empty and limsa not that crowded either...
Wow, Lost Ark is actually tackling RMT bots!
I do the same thing in it as in FFXIV, just reporting them all for RMT. I have a massive blocklist in it, and don't see them as often anymore, but when you first get to zones, yeah it could be really bad. Being free to play and having an easy to access area chat does that.
The reason why players cannot log out anymore from Lost Ark:

It's really funny how the things that people complain about in this thread are getting fixed one by one!

Yep, it's great that that they're nerfing the difficulty of their raids to make them more easily completely for players of lower ability and skill! And it's awesome that the answer to the request for more Euro server capacity is just "Nope, can't do it!" even though they could easily just press the magic "More Server" button!
There's a hot chick on onlyfans with pink hair. Hot.
