In all honesty I earned enough soldiery for all 4 spring waters right around the same time I got my 16th drop.
It may seem daunting, but every long drop is balanced with short drops, ending with most everybody spending roughly the same average time on this weapon tier.
RNG is karma, and karma is a bitch. We all deal with it in similar ways, and are rewarded in similar ways.
I ended up with about a 20% average drop rate. Not too shabby. By the time I got my last rng drop, I was about 800 soldiery shy of my last spring water.
Didn't count my runs. Why bother? I think counting only makes you frustrated. What I did was just watch some movies while running dungeons. Really wasn't too bad.
After getting all tomes I had to grind for almost 2k sol. Not bad at all.
Compared to nexus light farming this step was easy and relaxing.
SE doesn't give their numbers used for drops. When many players come together and record information such as this, it allows us to fill in the gaps left by SE. For example, when Atma was first added people were able to determine that the drop rate was abysmally low (something like 2% at the time, higher now). Not only does this help others know what they are getting into, but can save some people the hassle of even attempting it if they already play with restricted hours (2-3 a week) and need to know which time-sinks are remotely doable.
Yes it's frustrating, but we do it for the sake of the community \o/
I ended my Zodiac quest, and thinking about it I got pretty lucky with drops....
I got most of the drops on my first run in the dungeons...
the exceptions were Quarn HM/ Aurum Vale (5 or 6 runs), Brayflox HM (10 runs) and Pharos (20 runs)
while farming dungeons I met people that did Hullbreaker isle like 66 times without drop xD
Things are starting to pik up for me. Went 2 of 3 the other day. I just might finish this quest a second time. Not looking foward to doing a 3rd one....
I've been relatively lucky until I got to Qarn, 0/23, and the more you want to get this silly relic quest done so that you can start doing other stuff without worrying about anything else (gathering, crafting etc.), the more the RNG trolls you. I freaking take any day of the week Novus, Nexus and Animus over stupid Atma and this bs. There's nothing I hate more than not knowing if I'm gonna have to do a dungeon once or 25 times, no, just NO.
does anyone know if you can run a dungeon like DD with a lvl 45 class and still get the drop or does the class have to be lvl 50 for this to drop? i only read you can get it as a different class but i never said that this class was below lvl 50 anywere. for example if i run dd as a lvl 45 pld will i be able to get the zodiac drop for my WAR or not because not lvl 50 class?
Pretty sure it's only red if you're tracking the quest (in one of the 5 listed on the right side of the screen). Even if it's not currently being tracked, the quest is still active so there's no reason you shouldn't be able to get the part.
Although setting the quest to track and checking the boss circle is a good way to verify you're doing the right dungeon if you want to be extra sure about it.
ok just got the dd drop with my lvl 46 pld while doing the relic with WAR main. so it definitly works ^^ .

well thats what it basicly is. a 30 min casino lever pull. typcial asian mmo RNG bullshit. you never see a korean mmo without EXTREME rng in play. its totally unhuman because its basicly gamble with our free time. hence why i dislike rng based progress so much. its just bullshit and uncreative. i dont pay a sub to gamble my free time -.- i did rather farm light instead of this crap. because atleast there you a FIXED amount of shit you have to do. not unlimited screwover possibilty.
Finally got all my drops. Didnt feel too bad. I felt pretty lucky up until my last 2 which were Sastasha and snowcloak which took a combined 27 runs. The only other one that took quite a few was WP which is probably the fastest to run anyways. Got pretty lucky on the rng.

Now I just need 1167 Sol to finish up.
I have a question. It might be silly but, do you have to leave through the exit at the end of the dungeon to get the item? I'm wondering if for instance, you die and return to the start of the dungeon but still complete it, then leave, would you still be eligible to obtain your item?
I haven't bothered keeping my totals.. all I know is that I've done so many dungeons and I've only gotten two items.. one from AV and one from WP.
How people are even able to get a 1/1 out of any place is utterly unfathomable to me.
I don't even... I just can't...
Good for you ^_^
Here's a cookie
You were able to get 3 weapons in the time it took me to get 1 even though I did equal (and more in some cases) work for it. Pray tell me how that's fair? It's not, and that's what Windklinge is trying to say. RNG creates scenarios where one person gets everything handed to them on a silver platter while someone else has to shed blood, sweat, tears, time, and mountains of cash for the same reward. That's why RNG like this needs to be done away with.
The light farming portion, along with the first quest and the animus books were the best and fairest portions of the quest because they didn't rely on RNG, which automatically means everyone has exactly the same odds and has to put in the exact same amount of work into it.
MMOs have always had heavy RNG elements and the relic questline is not the only place where RNG is present in FFXIV either. Whether you're running primals for drops or raids/dungeons for gear, you're hoping for something you need to drop (not guaranteed) AND you have to win the roll on it. Crafting is RNG, desynthesis is RNG.
I wish people would quit complaining about the RNG of the relic questline. Do it or don't, it's your choice. SE will almost for sure increase drop rates later on. Worse drop rates are the price you pay for getting something right now (that is better than trying to get a drop from doing hard content, Shiva EX, Coil, etc).
From what I've seen the drop rates for relic items are around 1 in 5 which means you're on average looking at around 40 hours of running dungeons at normal, non-speedrun speeds. This sounds about right for content that's supposed to keep people busy for 3 months. I understand that some people don't think it's "fair" because someone got their item with less "work" but people should do the quests because they're having fun and because they enjoy seeing their characters get better, cooler gear, not to compete with everyone to be like "OMG I have relic and you don't!"
I realize this is just one perspective on the matter. I'm not calling my opinion right and others' opinions wrong, I just wanted to share my thoughts.
Go do 40+ Aurum Vales while everyone around you is getting their drop in under 3 runs.
Then come back and "share your thoughts".
You'll sing a different tune.
Personally the majority of my experience has been 10+ runs minimum.

I'm a tank so there's that at least, but I seriously feel like I'm being abused when I see people that are finishing the dungeon portions incredibly quickly by comparison and complaining about having to grind Soldiery.
As silly as it sounds, I actually had a thought along the same lines... that there were shenanigans afoot clearly to keep me in the queue and in the dungeons as a healer.
I suppose that's just me attempting to make some sort of sense as to why I've run Copperbell Mines HM over 20 times (along with other dungeons -- nearing that same tally) and manage not to get a drop or why SE even thinks that's relatively interesting to do, considering the lines of people saying they've only done certain dungeons so few times or that they're working on their 3rd or 4th weapon already.
As someone who consistently rolls single digit numbers on everything, daily -- you'd think there'd be a "break" somewhere along the lines, but apparently not. =_=
Just finished my Last Resort tonight. I averaged one dungeon atma in every 4.31 dungeons (I'm a stat geek).
Brayflox - 16 runs
Snowcloak - 8
Haukke Manor - 7
Wanderer's Palace - 6
Tam-Tara - 6
Hullbreaker - 5
Sastasha - 4
Pharos Sirius - 4
Aurum Vale - 2
Copperbell - 2
Amdapor Keep - 2
Qarn - 2
Halatali - 2
Stone Vigil - 1
Lost City - 1
Darkhold - 1
I feel bad for all these people running AV and PS 30+ times and im just sitting here 1/1 on both of them T_T
this is messed up, they need to put a cap on runs
yes they do, even if it's a high cap like 25 for each dungeon and it has to be a full clear, no join in progress...
finally got copperbell HM last night 1/17 and that was causing me no end of aggravation.
I'm also running healer, cos while I'm gunning for the DRG weapon, healer insta-queue beats 27 minute dps queue...
ya the most i hit was hullbreaker at 17, i dont think i got any other dungeon over 7, in total i did 58ish dungeon runs
16/95 for me, finished last night. I'll post exact numbers later.
By the end of the grind I had to grind out 0 Soldiery, with 300~ to spare by the end of it.
I got so many newbie bonuses it was like a blessing, but at the same time it did slow some runs down, but that was fine.
After I got past DD and AV I started having fun, making small talk with other players and cracking jokes about how I was allergic to the Hullbreaker Bees when I got OHKO'd from Final Sting. All in all I will be taking up a new set and help my friend run through things, because 1 it's something to do, and 2, I kinda wanna be prepared for Dark Knight if it has a Zodiac.
!!Joy!! Just finished my Second Zodiac Weapon!! Now starting a 3rd!!! I 1 shot'ed many of the DFs this time around, with the expection being that D*mn Snowcloak!!
I've noticed for me its the Ex Dfs that give me the biggest problems with drops. I think my drop rate might have been around 40%. ( just guessing)
Do I Dare start a New weapon at this time?? My scholar is light framing now and I might go Ahead and get the Zodiak upgrade for her. But a 4th might be pushing it at this time. if I get bored...maybe.
What's nice is you can do the Zodiac Quests as you light farm your weapon for Nexus. That's what I did at least with my Bravura Axe. I activated a couple Zodiac quests and got those done as I was collecting light and then activated the last two when I completed those. I like this quest line because unlike light farming you can use any of your roles to get what you need done. I essentially completed my Nexus and Zodiac quests a day or two apart.
Relative to drops I haven't really kept track of just how many. Some dungeons dropped first go where others were uncooperative. As I redid dungeons I continued to grab as many dungeon drops for seals and tomes for the Sacred Spring Water.
Wait ... is this a thing?
It kinda weirds me out that out of the 4 quests, some have you hand the item in as you get it, to unlock the next dungoen, while another has you run 2-3 dungeons before handing in all 3 items?
I thankfully got the AV drop this morning (1/2 runs) but honestly can;t remember if the final boss arena was red, I don;t think it was. AV is also part of a 2 part objective (can't remember the other) before i have to go hand both items in.
Well...you can only have so many quest targeted on your list. Meaning Other new quests say 5th on your to do list will not show you a "point of intest" say a red dot or area on your map. It might be just a limitation of the system but "Why take any chances" Also, you can get your Alex map drop and Zodiak drop a the same time. I didnt know that at first , but it happened.
I'll have to try and bump those quests up to the top of my list so the red area shows up, I've got some random stuff still active, and the marrage quest which isn;t going anywhere until saturday.
But yeah even it it's baseless anything that helps me think it's working helps combat rng burnout. I hated atma with a passion but followed the Japanese timezone theory just incase.
So far I've had quite a mix:
Got on first run: dzamael, brayflox, haukke, aurum, lost city.
WP took me 16 runs.
Currently counting (not yet received item);
Halatali: 2
Snowcloak: 3
Copperbell: 4
Sastasha:3
