honestly, it feels like people are treating this issue like it's black-and-white, and it isn't at all. both parties, the people who log out and those who don't aren't really right or wrong. it's not wrong to stay logged in so that you can play a game you put money down for, nor is it especially 'right' to log out so another can play.
ultimately, this game isn't some huge huge charitable affair or anything, people want to play and due to SE are unable to. staying logged in so they can play is fine and acceptable since SE are allowing it to happen in the first place. likewise, people logging out might be doing a tiny small deed, but in the grand scheme of things it's not really as if it makes a colossal difference. you aren't going to fix the problem by yourselves, regardless of the boost to your ego you may get for thinking you're doing the community a big favor.
my advice: stop trying to attack other players, other people who just want to play the game and wait for SE to address the problem. be indifferent.
i'm not excusing myself for anything -- i don't stay logged in either. yet, i still don't blame those who do. the problem would remain regardless and until SE does something there's always going to be a group of people unable to play. there is no 'right' thing to do in this situation. it's great that you log out and think you're doing some good deed, but in the end it's irrelevant to the greater problem of server capacity being inadequate.
