Maybe I would say that they are just average, and that there are countries both better at it and worse at it. When I think gay acceptance, I'm more likely to think Sweden or the Netherlands than the US. Although there are a few states it is legal in, those are in the minority. Canada allows it too, of course. I guess I should have specified the US instead of just all of NA.
Anyway, my point isn't which countries are better another country, but that gay acceptance is most certainly not something that is more widespread in North America compared to Europe. Maybe it's just because of certain really loud Christian groups in the US, but I seem to hear a lot more anti-gay propaganda coming from the US than from anywhere in Europe.
Not to mention that we just have a more laid back stance on sexuality in general, which includes homosexuality.
