Notwithstanding this IS 100% a Titanalt necro set of bumps:
As has been said many many times, it's very clear those on the forums are not representative of the playerbase as a whole. In every game, the forums tend to be more negative towards the game for the well known principle of "People who are happen often are playing the game not talking about it on forums, people who are unhappy are more likely to go to forums to complain", we also know that other forums discussing the game, both the mainsub in Reddit and the FFXIVDiscussion one, are not as negative on the game as the general attitude here is.
In short, for those who want to say the forums ARE representative of the playerbase as a whole and not suffering from selection bias, the onus is on you to prove it, as other forums discussing the game are not as negative, and most people accept the general rule that people unhappy are more likely to complain, meaning other voices are less represented. If you can't come up with an explanation for that, then the logical conclusion is that the official forum sample is not representative of the playerbase as a whole. It represents a skewed/weighted sample of one part of it, the most negative part, but not the general views of the majority.
Note that this does NOT mean they can't be raising valid points.
But in order to say it's a representative sample, the onus is on you to prove it.
Imagine if a pollster polled a political question and had a sample of 95% Republicans, but then told YOU that the onus is on YOU to prove their sample is bad not on them to show that it is not. That's not how statistics/polls are done. The onus is on the one insisting it's an accurate sample to prove it, not on those thinking it isn't to disprove it.
Yup.
i represent the small majority
