You want to be <insert gender/sexuality here>? Shoot for the stars. The moment you start trying to force it down other peoples throats (pun not intended!) is when you get pushback. A game doesn't need to "represent" you, as most of the time it will not be a "valid representation". Do you honestly intend to sit there and say being (potentially) represented poorly is better than no representation at all? I'd personally see that as worse.
Though, of course. This is coming from a "Cisgendered person" and that immediately means my input / opinion is invalid, for a whole variety of (often delusional) reasons.
You may want representation in popular media and "demand" it to happen. But at the same time, you could piss off both sides of that proverbial discussion. With forcing <insert gender/sexuality here> into the customers face when they don't want it to be, you are asking for another hatefest to break out.
Personally, if there was a trans character in the story, I wouldn't care. It'd just be "another person". The moment your sexuality / gender becomes your defining feature, is the moment you need to rethink some things. Not in a hateful or dismissive way, but I sure as heck won't treat anyone in the lGBT+ community any different to how I treat a straight person. because they are a person first. nobody should get preferential / special treatment over others. ( I know this is not the case, it's wishful thinking. But a miqo'te can dream!)
