What friends?
The Grandcompany leaders only come to her because she is the "face" of the Scions, who are only trusted because of Louisoix and the other Scion's/Circle of Knowing's efforts.
The only beneficial friend of hers we see, outside of the Scions, was Krile, who, like I said, took her spot in the group as the Non-Player Echo user.
Minfilia was the manager who ran the Scions. She oversaw logistics, co-ordinating information, designation of tasks, recruitment and deployment of people including hirelings. A lot of the information and resources the Scions had were from her work. The Archons weren't involved in that because that work would have been a vast waste of their talents and while Tataru managed the books and sought revenue, it was Minfilia that ran the show.
People who dismiss the value of a good manager usually have never had to work under a bad one. The fact the Scions ran smoothly and we had so few hiccups over trivial things suggests that Minfilia did well as a manager.
Case in point is a quest you have in 2.5 where you escort a scholar. He is one of several scholars hired by Minfilia to gather data on Aetheric levels around Eorzea. If from readings like this that the Scions have been able to draw accurate conclusions on declining Aetheric levels in Eorzea. She (apologetically) asks the WoL to step in and act as a bodyguard because they have found themselves unexpectently short handed. We do in that quest the type of work the lower rank Scions such as Hoary usually do. All of that is Minfilia's work and that is one example of what she is up to behind the scenes that we don't usually get to see.
The Scions, post HW, becomes a much less organised organisation and more a group of associates that share information and assist each other but fundamentally act independently.
Bitches, please... There's only one best girl, and it's the god damn WoL.
