Well I didn't spend gil on materia. But I did spend gil and time SBing them.

Not sure what SE plan to do with materia. Looks like materia just became a forgotten child.

LOL, it's kinda fun. But, I would not want that to be my main gear. Although, I have a feeling it might be. Notice the card with the spade on the hat. One of the new weapons for summoner/scholar is book of spades and book of diamonds.
