Hey,
What are the odds of us receiving a texture, lighting, and character model resolution update?
What are the odds of at least one of these happening?
Thank you,

I believe Yoshi-P stated in an interview that he he would like to do a graphics update in the future, but it wouldn't be for a long, long time.
Didnt we already have this Thread?....
.........soon? Preeeety low.
But hey, got my vote! Optional texture packs for all!
If your on PC and have a high spec computer, you can use Reshade to immediately make your game look a hundred times better at the cost of FPS.
Nightmare, hyperbole, please look forward to it.
I really hope they update au ra's horns and sclaes look more clean...
We have now look damn pixel blurr. I had good graphics card.
Same thing hairs still ugly pixel blurr.
Why do people keep asking for this? Do they not realize that the game already looks pretty good and is extremely well-optimized for an MMO? Due the nature of how they work, an MMO will never have the same level of graphics as a single player game can have. I play this game on my 4K TV at 60FPS and it looks better than an MMO has any business looking. Yeah, some of the older textures and areas don't look as good as newer ones, but that's the nature of ANY MMO. The only thing I could possibly ask for is updated character models - everything else looks great.
To me, the graphics in this game still look amazingly good (at max settings).. But then, I came from WoW about 6 months ago :)
I can't help but wonder what kind of potato these people are playing on when they keep asking for this. I guess that console peasants probably make up a good chunk of them, which would explain it. I have an 8700k and 1080Ti and can hold a stable 60FPS at 4k or 144FPS on my 2560x1080 monitor, with all settings maxed. It looks gorgeous on either of them.
Probably when PS5 becomes mainstream with console players.
Why would we need one though? WoW has managed to keep millions subscribed for 15 years and looks pretty bad in comparison to this game. I don't see why this game won't do similar.
This game sure needs a visuals (graphics) update, it's just too old looking now.
Black Desert Online looks pretty good to me and the new race (Shai!?) is making me interested in that game!...
Yeah but FFXIV needs to not look like BDO. You can pretty much tell a Korean mmo just by sight since they all pretty much look the same. Not in actual models but the style is all the same like they have 1 set of assets and just put everything together differently. They couldn't make it more cookie cutter than if they did straight up anime style game which also all seems to look the same.
I like ffxiv cause it looks like ffxiv or a high res ffxi. It's not cookie cutter like so many mmos these days, esp eastern ones.
FFXIV however will likely not see a full upgrade as instead of making the assets in high res and downscaling them like most games do so they can easily upgrade graphics down the line, they just straight up made low res assets instead.
I'm citing this article/interview

As for BDO Remastered, FFXIV on DX11 with Reshade on is just as good as BDO on Remastered mode. Obviously BDO on Remastered mode with Reshade on will push BDO ahead, but you will need a very expensive PC to do that lol.
The graphics dont need updating the server code needs updated.
Most games are moving towards a realm-less infrastructure.
FF14 have doubled down on the server cluster infrastructure by splitting existing ones (in Europe) to solve poor server technology.
We should be allowed to play with any one in the region not stuck to out 'datacentre'.
Glamor is an increasingly popular feature in MMORPGs and there should not be such (server) limitations on collecting them. RIFT for example has dire server code but they allow you to collect EVERY skin in the game - for free. If (former game company) Trion could do it why can't SE.
We need a server code reborn.
Different perspective, most likely. I've been looking at these same character models and low quality textures for six years now. If you're just playing the game normally and zoomed out then it does look quite good. But as soon as you notice how bad a hair texture is you start seeing it in every close-up in every cinematic.
This was the first moment for me where the textures looking bad took me completely out of a scene:
Traditionally Final Fantasy cinematics were the best looking part of the game, but this is the complete opposite.
Nobody is saying it needs to look as good as whatever new release pushing the boundaries of how good graphics can be, but at some point they should probably do something.
I've also zoomed in a fair few times to look at peoples armour and then you really start to see the low-quality textures in the game, to the point where just like in your screenshot, everything looks very pixely when you zoom in quite close, fortunately the game had done a strangely good job at making things still look quite good providing you don't zoom in too close to what ever it is you're looking at, but even still it would be nice to have upgraded optional textures to make this game look even better for those that have the rigs for it.
Honestly? I'd rather not have them mess with our character models.
I experienced that with my Draenei in WoW and the result was so horrible that I basically lost any connection to my character.
Why would a high-resolution texture option sacrifice optimization? It literally has no bearing on this. It's higher-resolution assets for those who can power it. Nothing more or less different than what already exists with low vs. high settings - all that would be involved is adding an Ultra setting, basically.
As an aside, SE's embarrassingly low-res textures are done no favours by the obsession with close-in camera angles in cutscenes. Same goes for the physics (or lack thereof). I've lost count of the number of times I've been enjoying a cutscene, only to have any sense of immersion shattered by a close-in camera angle showcasing horrifically low-resolution hair sticking sticking straight through someone's collar. If we can't get texture or physics updates in the near future, can we at least get cutscenes that avoid making it so obvious that certain elements of this game's graphics belong in the mid-2000s?
