Stupid Question: Leves and Income (a bit off topic)

Out of sheer curiosity, what is the rationale behind having leve allowances? I've finished getting a SMN to 50 and have done most of the quests in the game. I'm working on leveling my ALC and WVR classes, but it's been a bit of a pain. The leves were really helping the process until I ran out, and I'm concerned that I'm slowly running out of money as I no longer have much gil flow from quests. What am I doing wrong here?

I came from games like WoW and SWTOR where running dailies (and no I don't ever want that again) and selling crafted items or mats were the main source of income. I'm at a bit of a loss for what to do here.

The rationale behind the leves is probably similar to that of Daily quests in other MMOs... Wherein at level cap, or when people run out of regular quests, there would still be something they can do every day to earn a little bit of money/experience.

The thing to keep in mind with this game is that the leveling scheme is based around leveling more than one class to 50... Unfortunately, your average MMO player has been conditioned to push straight to 50 with a single class grabbing every single quest they see; resulting in the same issue a handful are seeing at level 50 where they've done every single sidequest and used all their leves on a single class getting handed equipment as they go so never having to worry about money or repair costs... Then coming to realize that each piece of their level 50 equipment costs roughly 1k to repair, and they don't have any new quests left to re-assure them that they are earning money still. For those people, there really isn't much to say other than to suggest that they look to those things they can hunt or gather for things to sell.

For those who take a broader approach however, things are much tighter on the experience end of things, with much more time spent grinding through fates (since combat leve, dungeons, and guildleve rewards are simply too small at any level). And are making their money through those fates and whatever crafting they can be bothered to do. For this group, leves tend to be much more rewarding since tradeskills can multiply the related rewards for turning in high quality items. Past level 20, some of these can return 1-2k gil per leve due to triple turnin.

Thanks for the reply. I'm resolved to be decidedly more careful about which leves to turn in; I'll have to really think about that. In the meantime I'll gather for my DoH classes and grind other classes to 50 using FATEs, as there's currently no better alternative for that.

There is an ALC leve in Uldah that requires mats you can buy from the ALC guild. It's the one to make potions of dexterity you can spam for 3x. At 25 ish if you have 20ish BOT, you can switch to Quarrymill where there is a leve for Hi-potions of int that you can also spam for 3x.

I got ALC to 50 using these 2 leves.

Always turn in the HQ versions and you make gil hand over fist.
