Windows 8 FFXIV: Launcher corrupts upon using touchscreen keyboard [11035][30426]

Unable to check for version update / fail.

I had launched the game successfully again after a fresh install. I can confirm that using the touchscreen keyboard on Windows 8 causes FFXIV: ARR to fail completely. Upon pressing Play from the launcher, the error codes come up evey time, even if the touch keyboard was only activated one time, regardless of restart of PC.

I am on Windows 8 Surface Pro 64GB with XIV installed to a 64GB microSD.
