Transgender Viera Question

As a transgender myself, Ive been wondering how things would be for a transgender Viera
For example if a transgender Viera is born (male to female) and she grows up and realizes she doesnt want to leave the village with a mentor to learn about the harsh life in the wild, what could she possibly do? Would the other members of her village accept that, or kick her out?
What if a transgender Viera (female to male) does not want to stay in the village and he wants to leave with a mentor, but nobody allows him to do that and instead of that he has to stay in the village? Would he probably cut his hair, do a lot sports to gain muscles and wear boy's clothes to look more masculine?
What are your opinions of it?
I am sure other species like Hyur, Lalafell, Roes have it easier if they are transgender, but Viera seems to be a race with a harsh life, same goes to Au Ra Xeala

As a transgender woman as well, I imagine that viera have a bit more of a grasp of gender than the other races, because of that little detail where physical sex is indeterminate until puberty while still having a very gendered society. That doesn't necessarily mean they've got a higher rate of trans people, but that does mean that the issue has probably forced itself there more than anywhere else.

Given the fact we've barely met vieran societies, I have no idea what that would mean, we don't even know how monolithic vieran societies are or really any idea how this part of it works. So I couldn't possibly tell you what viera would do, but I bet they have procedure for it; they probably aren't being blindsided by this one.

We're told that Viera themselves have a different view of gender than everyone else. It almost seems as though it's a role like how other Viera are chosen for very specific roles.

From what we can see in the Dawntrail role questline, if you don't accept your role, it seems like you're exiled. Like Cleretic said, we don't know if that's the case everywhere but that is just what we know. Viera society in the woods seems to be very strict and survival-based, and your role in the society is either chosen by the matriarch or the nature of your birth.

But that's not to say that Viera who have been exiled or chosen to leave of their own volition aren't generally successful. They've been shown to integrate with outside society or fail at integrating with outside society just the same as anyone else. But I wouldn't expect to see Viera making choices for themselves remain in the forest.

but I wonder if it applies to every Viera village.
Like if some can be stricter than others.
If they are exiled, they are on their own, then they can go to cities like Limsa and start their own life there or something?
Also if they want to leave the forest on their own, I wonder if it'll be hard for them or if they can be killed if they try to. (especially by other Viera from the same village)

In sure some Viera villages may be stricter than others but from what little we know they’re supposed to have a very, very strict society and we have no information other than what the game and Matsuno have told us. But considering the Green Word is something that seems to be something all Viera follow very closely and itself is a bunch of strict laws, I’d imagine there’s not much wiggle room.

We do know that a lot of Viera who have chosen to leave the forest seem to have ended up in Dalmasca. But there’s also one Viera male who has chosen to go east and is with the Hingan(?) crew of people who come to Eorzea to do New Years every year. There’s also a male Viera who is still considered a Forest Viera who travels around the world as part of a mission given to him and is allowed back into the forest. And then there’s a bunch of Viera women who have left and have traveled the world since leaving.

Most Viera exiles (whether chosen or otherwise) don’t seem to be welcome back into the forest, as that is probably part of what’s meant to prevent you from leaving in the first place since the forest is not meant to be a revolving door. There’s no mention at them of having trouble leaving though like being attacked by other Viera so I guess it’s just fine for them to go one way but not the other.

And then on the opposite side of the world you have the Shentona of Tural who don’t seem to have any strict rules at all and all seem to be free spirits, especially the ones in Alexandria.

well, guess the elders might be consulted to make final judgement if someone's gender identity is seen that publicly significant issue?--that it need formal resolution like that(??).
In clan based, more-premodern-like-societies-than-not I'd suppose the need of the many trump the need of the one often enough, but who knows. at their best people are full of compassion and indifference to these phenomenon, "live and let live" style.

does that mean that individual viera can't try to deal with their personal issues, like gender, with any way they can in their private life? of course it doesn't.
in other games simple leaving forest and their traditional way of life seemed to appear more unthinkable to most viera than anything else, ya know "the exiled".

if we were dropped some lore about viera suddenly, and it told that: "they have third gender in their culture", to the tune of rl hijra or okama--damn, i wouldn't even be surprised. more like "huh, that makes sense".

I'd expect something more like two-spirits from native Americans, or brotherboys and sistergirls from indigenous Australian people, recognizing that gender is not so easily categorized. I expect the viera would have an understanding that embraces that their approach to understanding gender doesn't quite fit right, rather than going 'we've invented a third basket to put these people in'. It just makes more sense for their societies as we understand them to have recognized that form of gender diversity instead.

I do broadly agree, though. Viera, more than any society we've ever met, would have definitely figured out gender diversity. Every other society I can unfortunately imagine rejecting or ignoring it, but it literally just would not make sense for the viera to have no understanding of it. Like Mikko pointed out, their response might not be good (although I'd argue that Matsuno's viera are different enough to not immediately apply), but they definitely get it.

I would also love to see transgender body types as a third option, and I would even play one even though I'm not transgender in real life.

There isn't just one type of man or one type of woman—our world is diverse, and I think that diversity should be reflected in FFXIV as well.

Square Enix games are especially impressive because of how they bring the LGBTQ+ community together. Just look at some of Square Enix's other games.
