Can we take a look at the matchmaker in terms of putting 5 dps vs tanks and healers on the other team?
It makes for an awful experience overall.
If you have a tank and healer in the queue. Put one of each on either team not both on the same team.

Special note for every melee job being rated identically when in fact, no, a ninja doesn't have the same frontline weight than a tank, and no, hybrids jobs aren't flex melees (this is a big disadvantage of playing RDM/DNC btw, you're automatically screwed by the matchmaking and end up vs a tank and a reaper when you're paired with a ninja for example).
Here's the % chance to win with certain comps;
- 5 dps vs 4 dps 1 healer > very big chance that 5 dps team actually wins because they outweight with damage and can easily nuke healer, making healer effectively dead 90% of the time. Specially if healer is WHM that is easily the worst one for defense. Now if 5 dps team doesn't have dragoon, dnc, vpr, monk / mch or osmething serious, then yeah its quite bad.
- 2 tanks vs 1 tank + 1 healer > 2 tanks team has slightly more chance to win. Specially if they are drk + gnb. If latter team has Scholar, then they may have a chance.
- 3 tanks combo can also be seen, same as 3 healers vs 3 healers which is a snore fest.
Ninja is a big subject. Can be a frontliner as many players proved it. Doton gives damage reduction, have big shields. Can absolutely survive insane burst as ninja, so it's not that bad. LB is also one of the things that can change the course of the game and why people still hate this class + hunt it down first.
For RDM I agree, it used to be a class that only few would play because of black / white stance but now it has been degraded to the point that everyone can spam buttons. DNC on the other hands is annoying when in perfect comps. Your 5 dps with dancer is going to win over any tank or reaper. Specially if dnc is combined with drg, monk, blm, mch.
Matchmaking cannot be adjusted due to lack of playerbase so players must try to win the "Impossible". Scholar is just too busted together with astro and they both make wins for teams that would otherwise lose hard.
Yeah I'm not sure where you got the idea that a second tank will outclass a healer like AST. That's a funny thought. Unless said second tank is actually a PLD - maybe.
Also a Ninja dedicating its mudras to tanking means it's a Ninja not applying any damage. There are way better suited classes for actual tanking.
I'm also sure that DNC is so good that's why it's been universally panned at the bottom of every remotely competent tier list in existence to garbage tier. :rolleyes:
There's also slightly more nuance to what kind of dps, healers and tanks we're talking about for matched teams. It's not necessarily so cut-and-dry that it's figured out simply by the number of red/blue/green that pop up on the player portrait loading screen. A SGE and AST don't necessarily hold the same amount of weight in every given composition or gameplan.
As it was already mentioned, I find the biggest flaw in the match-making algorithm is stuff like when there's exactly only three melee jobs in a match, one being a NIN, and the matchmaking expects the NIN to carry the weight of the "only melee" job to a team versus the other team with an actual tank plus something like a SAM or DRG. Or even the NIN versus a SAM and DRG.
