Scouting and Maiming Job Ideas

Since Scouting and Maiming are now the only main job categories that have only TWO jobs each, what jobs would you give them for a third?

For scouting I would honestly pick Assassin, which hasn't been seen yet. Contrary to popular belief Shadow in FFVI was NOT a ninja even though he uses Ninja Daggers. Assassin is actually its own reoccurring thing in the game. Scouting jobs are hard to think about, and honestly I don't know if Corsair would even fit. I feel like Corsair would be a better striking job. Which also means Corsair could theoretically be next in line for 8.0. ;3

Regardless though, Scouting is a very odd archetype. It doesn't usually fit with the classic jobs in the series outside of Thief, Rogue, and Ninja. Rogue is already used, and a lot of the skills are borrowed from Thief. The steal action also isn't good for this type of MMO, despite it working well in others. It may be in the best interest for Square Enix to come up with brand new jobs in the series for scouting from now on, which would suit its out of box nature.

For Maiming, I would pick Viking. Viking uses Hammers and Axes in the series. Obviously in this case, it would only be hammers. I would take away their ability to tank, and make it purely a DPS. The jobs animations could be nordic inspired. Imagine if they had a horn ability for summoning a cool down, rune like designs in some of their spells, and a variety of interesting hammer swing animations. I think that this job would be insanely popular if it were brought to XIV. Think of it like a holy paladin, but with a northern flare, and obviously not a tank.

What would you pick? :3

Maiming has a ton of options but since Viper seems to be on the more hunter side of things, I feel that SE has a very limited mindset of what fits the Scouting criteria. That scouting needs to stay somewhat "Assassination" in theme to some degree. So I guess if we stick to ideas that excel in assassination, that would be your scouting contender. Even Corsair kind of fits the motif of assassination. For giggles, I asked Chat GPT what other Assassination-themed jobs are left unused for Final Fantasy and after spending about five mins on it, I'm pretty certain that any additional jobs included into Scouting will also probably be FFXIV originals.

All melee DPS sets have 2 jobs each now. You also forgot about Striking. Unless BST is also getting striking but no one really counts limited jobs.

Ninja already has the ability "assassinate" which would make that a little awkward.

Could give Assassin a different weapon than what it has had in the past.

until they rediscover something that makes jobs "unique" what you are asking for is for them to water down the existing jobs further.

I am sure ninjas would love losing azbilities so you can have a new job....

Because the mechanical possibilities of this game are extremely limited by design, there really aren't any more niches to fill. As others have said, any new job is certainly just going to steal aspects of existing jobs like what happened with Reaper and Sage both stealing from Dark Knight's theme and kit.

Instead of new jobs, they could get the same results by just making alternate weapon skins for the jobs we have. It seems most people just want more weapons, not necessarily more jobs.
