Crafting/Gathering and company housing in 2.0

As I was reading another players post about the crafting system in DQX it got the wheels in my head turning about what possible changes to crafting will be coming in 2.0, so I created this thread to bounce ideas around as the other is incoming for a lock as it's about another game:rolleyes:

I am very happy about the recent changes to the system such as abilities being far more effective and getting rid of that pesky crafting timer which served only to make it hard to chat with your LS mates while you were trying to make things.

As far as changes to the current system, I do hope they allow some manner of group crafting as shown in that video so so long ago. Like the two players building that small boat (which would be cool to use, fishing at sea anyone?) or teaming up to make the cannon which could be used to help out in a hamlet defense or perhaps even the main town depending on how crazy things get.

My eventual dream I've had since before beta/launch was Company/Guild housing that is upgradeable. As in you start out with what amounts to a warehouse/old building and your crafting jobs can upgrade the guild housing for looks/bonuses. I'd also like to seem them expandable as in you could add a crafting area where you could get minor synth support like adding your own furnace for your free companies blacksmith.

Also for gathering classes it would be nice to have a garden area outside the company house itself where you could harvest and perhaps a small pond for fishing and a cave entrance to a small underground area for your mining purposes.

As for where these houses might be, there are far too many players for open world housing but it might be viable to zone into a neighborhood instance of say no more than 5 company houses from a small road that ends in a cul-de-sac so you could actually have neighbors or just the guild house itself if that's too much to manage.

I had a feeling that this was close to the intent of the original dev team from the start and that you could zone into these instances from areas like Lily Hills in Gridania.

That's all I have, feel free to add your own idea or shoot holes in my crazy theories ;)

I like the idea of crafters upgrading their housing, but I don't want to to fall into stuff like:
-Carpenters can ONLY make this furniture
-Blacksmiths can ONLY make this furniture

I want everything to be made by ever crafter! I want a house made of Raptor Shanks, with furniture made of Cotton Yarn!

I honestly think (hope) this is what they're planning to do. because it just sound so lovely. I like the whole neighborhood feel as opposed to a singular house instance. what I'm about to say might be the stupidest thing you've ever heard but: back in XI I had the hardest time getting friends to come over and 'hang out' in my mog house. I put lots of time into decorating the place making it look pretty cool.. and I had no one to show it to. Moreover, the people that did check it out had nothing to do there upon arrival. so you've got two people just standing around.

Theyve already confirmed the housing zone will be one giant zone for the entire servers housing. You will be able to see everyone's houses just can't enter unless invited

I think it was described as more like a series of smaller zone with a limited number of houses in each one. It really hasn't been talked about in much detail, though.

Either way, I don't see how a zone with unlimited housing would work. Even if the insides remain unloaded there will be outdoor gardens and such. There's only so much they can put into a single zone before system resources become an issue.

For what it's worth, I remember Yoshida mentioning "walking by and seeing other people's houses" (paraphrased).
So something of the sort might be there.

Does anyone have any sources on this, I've been desperate for player housing information. But back on topic I'd love to hear other peoples idea for crafting and gathering.

This would really bring the gatherers and crafters together to create something rewarding. I wouldn't mind it being an instanced zone, because it seems like you could put more effort into designing something like that.

Hopefully you will still be able to open your guildhall / free company headquarters? and your personal housing to others.

It seems like I remember Yoshi saying something like player housing will be located in the vicinity of their guildhall. So more like you could see a small neighborhood for your own guildmembers, but not a bunch of unaffiliated peeps.

Anyway, +1 to everyone~~ I really hope this idea takes off and doesn't get forgotten.
