Glamours: Re-work the entire system.

Completely re-work the glamour system to work more like World of Warcraft's Transmog system. Then no one has to worry about adding anything at all to a glamour dresser. Have the new system automatically add what people have in their glamour dressers into the new system.

No more clogging up dresser space, no more bloated strain on the system. It's obvious the system itself is outdated, so update it properly. The space increase is just a band-aid on a gushing wound. It's not going to hold.

EDIT: If you really want to make the playerbase happy, take away role restrictions on gear. Once a piece of gear goes into the collection, ANY class can use the gear. The only restrictions that should remain are for racial gear, weapons, and artifact gear. Everything else should turn into a level 1, Any Class glamour item. So what if your tank wants to wear a dress: I already have to stare at naked Roegadyn wearing a Chocobo head while they tank.

So what if the black mage wants to wear plate armor? A battle mage sounds AMAZING. Let them do it.

They know glamour has issues, and no, they've already stated repeatedly countless times in the past that a WoW style system is simply out of the question due to technical problems with how the game is coded and handles gear appearence. And they simply cannot "rework" the system easily without affecting the game's operation, the only way that could happen would be for the game as a whole to be completley redesigned and coded from the ground up, a "Version 2-3.0" if you will.

As for glamour restrictions, that's a whole different subject and is mostly a design choice. Yoshi has particular ideas how he wants classes and Jobs to look like, so he has stuck to the gear restrictions ever since (and your "BLM wearing plate armour" arguement is somewhat irrelevant anyway as there is already some plate armour glamour choices available for mages like BLM, to say nothing of that originally being something the late Gary Gygax of Dungeons and Dragons fame established - mages can't wear heavy armour that would intefere with their ability to concentrate, healers can't wield bladed weaponry that would draw blood etc, and SE adopted. The very first FF game was virtually a Japanese homage to DnD after all, and FFXI outright stated those restrictions in it's manual, so FFXIV also having them is nothing new.

Now, don't get me wrong, I do support a lessening of generic gear restrictions, with 'Artifact Armour' (AF) and some other specific items remaining class locked, but it's a slippery slope, inevitably someone would then demand those items be lessened too, so... because of this 'all or nothing' attitude, I would rather SE not make any changes.

No way they can fix that. If it was possible they would be ready done by now. Maybe when the game is on stage of no content maybe they fix it or not. It just they cant do it due to engine weirdness. We need to accept it and ask more space for the future.

You're clearly blind. Tanks running dungeons half naked, heck all jobs can be seen played half naked in some 2b/bikini so this point is invalid and its time to get off the high horse. The second Yoshi added glams like that, that argument became invalid. Unlock role restrictions in the glamour dresser. Nobody cares anymore about tanks need this, mages can't wear this.

It will propably not be possible. The point is, in WoW you cannot modify the look of the items like applying colors on them. This makes the whole thing way easier to implement. Every piece of the same gear has the same look on every character so the item exists only once in the database. You only need a simple reference between the item and the character and you are done. And it is also very easy to query this information because you only need a so called "inner join". Inner joins are very fast.

But if you start with things like dyeing then you will need extra storage for this information for every character in the game. And this is propably the reason why they limit it. I guess, the storage itself is not the problem. But querying the information (item + color) could cause performance problems if you allow all items and all colors.
