Does anybody know of any good BLM/thaumaturge 'for dummies' guide?

So I have a character named Moltres Pokémon on leviathan and because Moltres is a fire type, I figured that BLM would be her class.

However, all the way up to and including Satasha, I feel that my DPS is bad. through the Ul'Dah storyline, it seems like that it is taking longer defeating enemies than when I did Pugilist and Gladiator in Ul'Dah. I also did Lancer, WHM, and SMN starters and I feel that 1 - 30, I had MUCH higher DPS with those—including the healer.

I must be doing something wrong or just not getting it with thaumaturge.

Nobody complained in Satasha other than people telling the healer some stuff, but it is early in the game so people might be keeping quiet.


Anybody know of any good DPS guides for thaumaturge?
My brother-in-law may have all jobs to 80, but he is the last person you want to ask about BLM and he admits that.

I haven't actually watched this but it seems to be well-received if it was bad I doubt it'd have a good like to dislike ratio.

That's a guide from lvl 1-80.
Generally speaking tho it's just spamming Fire and keeping your Thunder dot up, Transpose into Ice at lower levels and spam your Blizzard until you're at 100% mana then Transpose to Fire again and Fire spam rinse and repeat.

Came in here to suggest this guide, though Kol's description of the general play is fairly accurate.

BLM depends a lot on the level you are as the rotation switches up a decent amount as you level.

At your level though, it's just Fire I until you're low on mana, transpose, Blizzard I until you're at max mana again, transpose and repeat; and keep Thunder up on the enemy (It's usually better to cast when you're in Ice phase). If I remember correctly, Blizzard I still costs mana once you transpose, so you'll want to make sure that your last Fire I doesn't take you under the mana you need to cast Blizzard I.


For AoE, it's the same except Fire II, Blizzard II, and Thunder II (once you get it, also remember that Blizzard II is point blank for who knows what reason, so make sure you jump into the enemies). That is, until you get Freeze; Once you get Freeze (and until ~level 50) you'll JUST spam it for AoE, no more Fire II/Blizzard II (still keep up Thunder II)

As for things taking a while, your right side (accessories) are a bit outdated. You may want to buy some level ~20 upgrades from a vendor or from your Grand Company.
