Hi,
Since the issues on the 14th the game has become unplayable.
Prior to that have been fine. All other games and internet services I have operate with no issues. I am from Australia.
Is there an eta on when things will be back to normal?

What ISP are you with? I am having the same issues
iiNet. Have had a friend who is with TPG has the same issues has started using a VPN that connects via different route in the USA. Seems like certain routes between locations in Australia (we are in Western Australia) are having issues. I have also seen people from Singapore posting issues since the DDoS attacks were reported. There could be routes that were changed or blocked to prevent disruptions so I can only assume that it has impacted our routes. The only option may be to start using a VPN to play :(
I doubt it. It's usually if you use something that gives you an advantage or harassment to other places that breaches it. Lots of players generally use it to be able to play. But yeah I even had issues trying to load this page a few times so there is something definitely going wrong with their routes since the DDoS. Potentially they may have blocked off specific subnets from routing traffic towards them. That would explain a lot of packet loss. But they could be doing something from their end to try fix all this up. For now it feels unplayable.
Performing a tracert (I won't publish my entire logs here)

My friend performed the same tests when on VPN and no packet drops. So it feels like we are in a bit of a mess. I tested to create a character on Garuda which is closer route on the elemental servers:
Seems there are packet drops here too:

It maybe something isolate from the West and Asia pacific region. The character I created on Garuda was even lagging on the intro quests. So yeah it's not good. I dunno if there will be any traction around this so may need to look at trying out a VPN if it gets around this problem.
I was watching the top right had corner for the connection send and receive in game and at times it would keep sending and just stop receiving. Then others it was 0 send and 0 receive.
I had checked up no firewall or other blocks. The game was working fine until the 14th of April when the DDoS started. Then it has been lag and disconnects each day.
My friend hasn't had any issues since going onto VPN. When disconnecting it he says the symptoms return and he has issues. No further offical statements from square yet or anything else about this.
Good morning and thank you for posting in the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums,
We apologize for the delay in our response, please try the following troubleshooting steps:
- The game will use the Internet Explorer web browser to connect to the internet. Open Internet Explorer, then open the "Tools" setting, go to "Internet Options" and adjust the following settings:
- Under the "General" tab, please delete ALL browser history.
- Under the "Security" tab, please move the slider to the lowest possible settings or no higher than "Medium"
- Under the "Privacy" tab, click “Advanced” and select ‘Accept’ under both First Party and Third Party Cookies.
- Under the "Advanced" tab, please make sure that "Allow software to run or install even if signature is invalid" is CHECKED.
- Make sure that all SSL and TLS (EXCEPT SSL 3.0) are CHECKED. [SSL 3.0 should be UNCHECKED]
- Hit "Apply" to save the settings, and then "OK, to close the Internet Options menu.
- Please RESTART your PC now. Once your PC has been restarted, Right-Click the FFXIV launcher icon once more and select "Run as Administrator"
-Make sure your fire wall or antivirus program is not interfering with the game
- Check to see if the following port ranges are opened on your router. You can contact your ISP and request they open them for you:
▼TCP
54992 through 54994,
55006 through 55007,
55021 through 55040
-Try disabling background applications and do a clean boot by opening the task manager and selecting the “Start up” tab. Disable everything and then restart the PC.
Thank you for visiting the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.
Cheers for the standard reply. But these settings have remained the same and not changed I have confirmed.
The only change here has been the report of the DDoS attacks after the 14th. From this given point certain players are starting to experience packet loss. Given the region is Australia and Asia Pacific areas the issue may be applied blocks that would have been an action point taken to prevent further attacks from wherever they occurred. This has probably impacted certain users / ISPs because it has impacted routing to the game servers.
As mentioned in my notes a friend of mine experiencing the same issues said he setup a VPN direct to the USA and has no longer had any problems. No port changes or anything required. The ports will generally be an issue to connect at all and not an issue of latency and drop outs if that were the problem.
Currently the latency is still present and whether we will get anything official for some time will be minimal I believe particularly, as what is going on in the world. Support seems to be a bit more difficult these days. Thanks for the attempt though.
I will give it a few more days and see if no improvement will look at what other options there are available. Aside from the copy paste script response is there anything else you can advise on the matter?
Unfortunate that after waiting a few days we just have the copy-paste usual response which has actually been addressed in other threads. Would appreciate if this would be looked into further, if staff here even have that power.
By the way, I asked on the FFXIV ANZ discord if anyone else has this problem, and multiple people did saying 'yes but I thought it was just me'
Same. They have copied and pasted this reply via email to me a week ago, I posted on here a few days ago... no response. I've even posted multiple detailed data points, provided research on options to troubleshoot, and proved it is not a client/network/ISP, but rather a FFXIV server issue, and they haven't replied to me yet after days of waiting for a response.... *shrug*
I get disconnected every few min and cant do anything in game.
All I want to know is are they looking into this issue? I just want someone to tell me they're looking into it, that's it. I've been a loyal FFXIV fan for many years, and had no issues until this suddenly came up.
Here is my traceroute. Same outcome as Freakazoid: After the fifth hop the latency balloons. I think it is even the same address they mentioned causing the issue.
