So I just started shadowbringers which automatically kicked me from the novice network but I want to rejoin it as a sprout. I won't be able to join as a mentor for some time as my character is still relatively new.

Well, you can't. You met the requirements of no longer being a sprout.

70 levels of main story + a week of gameplay means you're not relatively new, you're a regular player now. Ideally by now you should have joined a FC, they can probably answer the same questions as the NN.

You already have 2 roles leveled up.
Play a healer for a while and you'll be a mentor in no time.
That being said, don't look to NN as a place for socializing. If you simply want to go back to ask questions I'm sure your FC is more than willing to help.
If your intention was to go back for whatever social aspect you found there, you may have misunderstood the point. (Though a lot of mentors do as well)
