Gardening and Thavnairian Onions

I recently managed to get a house and today I began dabbling in gardening. All the cross pollination stuff makes sense, working my way up to a Thavnairian Onion for instance.

Every strategy ultimately repeats, however, ffxivgarden and the spreadsheet I found both show planting a Thavnairian Onion seed gives 1 Thavnairian Onion and one Thavnairian Onion seed. If I can afford to buy the seed on the MB, would I be able to just plan 8 of them, harvest, and plant the 8 seeds I get?

As noone mentions this i'm guessing it's something like you get a random seed or have a chance of "up to 1 seed".

Thavnarian Onion seed only comes from cross-breeding yield. The crop itself does not yield any seed.

Onion seed comes from crossing chocobo food, like curiel roots or mimmet gourds with other crops.

There are many crosses for those chocobo foods. Some even use T onions. Most use Krakka roots.

You can get minion seeds while growing the onions from crosses so that's your bonus after growing a crop of onions.
