I would point you to the FFWiki, but much of the FFXIV specific info there is misleading, out of date, or just plain wrong, it's still good for general references and reoccuring elements throughout the series that show up also in FFXIV.
Aside from Sounsyy's masterpost, I use the entries on gamerescape if I want to look up something specific. In so far as I can tell, the entries (descriptions and the like) typically appear to be taken directly from the game. Can always cross reference with other sources if something seems suspect.
