Chocobo training manual: How to use?

I bought "Chocobo training manual - Choco Dash 1" but it has no use option when right clicked. If I talk to the trainer in the Gold Saucer, all she wants to see is food in my inventory.
So, how do I apply the manual?

Found it: I had to unlearn a race ability I had picked up on the course. Looks like it can only have one.

Yeah, only one learned ability, but when you breed them they can have a 2nd one from one of their parents
