This has been bugging me for years to know the answer so I thought i'd straight up ask, is the first boss in Keeper of the Lake, Einhander, a reference to the game Einhander from Playstation 1? it was made by Square, and the boss looks and wields his weapon(s) similiar to how you do in that game so i gotta know, is it a cameo/easteregg/reference sorta thing? Would be very neat if it was.
Yup, definetely a reference to that obscure Square PS1 game. ;) (Just like how Cruise Chaser in Alexander is a reference to Ark from FFIX, itself a reference to Cruise Chaser Blasty, an ancient PC game Square also made long before the FF series). FFXIV references not only all the titles that came before it (and after too for that matter!), but also other non-FF Square games.
Not just games, they make references to all kinds of things. I'm still fond of Brute Justice and its components being named in reference to the Combaticons, because I'm an old school Transformers nerd.
