So, I started FFXIV as a Marauder, this means I began in Limsa Lominsa as my home city. I spent a lot of my newb time in and around the city and grew to love the place as it's pretty cool and some of the locales around La Noscea are great.
I also love the lore about the cities past being very much related to piracy and the focus on other sea faring trades such as fishing and trading.
As such, it always feels weird to be a Lominsan, but to not own a boat of any kind...
Thus, I would like to ask if it would be possible to allow players to own ships!
With a functionality being similar to that of a House, where you can decorate the decks (Exterior), as well as your private cabin (Interior), hire Crew (Vendors as well as other potential interactable NPC's).
You could also use it as a means of transport to various places, such as Housing Districts, places with ports such as Limsa Lominsa, Isles of Umbra, Kugane, The Ruby Sea (Possibly at additional cost because Ruby Tithe and all) and even the Doman Enclave.
Possibly even having further use to take you into the waters near various places to fish from. Or even use your ship to do trading missions!
I don't know... But, even if it was basically like a house just, off in the middle of the ocean somewhere that you accessed from a port that'd be fine with me. I just think that owning my own ship would be cool as heck (Obviously it'd have to be non-canon otherwise when people in the MSQ are all like "Oh, how are we to find a ship that can take us across the world!!" y'all wouldn't be like "Well... I have my own personal ship that I bought after selling a bunch of pants on the market...")

One of the features of boating could be riding out into the middle of the sea somewhere and fishing from the deck of your boat. Expand the number of fishing locations this way.
There are also numerous minor islands surrounding the great continents which could be accessed by boat and given some kind of purpose like treasure hunting, notorious monsters or mining/botany. Basically reviving exploratory missions but not as a huge instance like diadem was. -

However, they could do so many things with ships. Such as allowing people to do trading missions where they send their crew to trade items between ports. Potentially having a mini-game where you can earn gil or tomestones buy purchasing items from one port and then selling them for higher at another one (Think something like BDO's trading system, only less of your carriage getting destroyed by bandits while you were AFK auto-running between towns...). They could create combat duties, such as having to fight pirates, explore islands filled with enemies, defeat krakens...
As well as allowing you to access special zones for gathering items, via fishing, botany or mining.
With also the potential to have a Squadron-esk style of Crew Management. So you can get better combat efficiency to do more battling, improved trading traits (I.e. Cheaper to buy items, selling for higher, affinities for certain ports etc) or improved harvesting such as getting better yield, bonuses to HQ chance and increased chances of finding an Unspoiled or Ephemeral node.
Airship is a possibility too. Though, Airships seem to be much more limited in attainability. Very few people in-game seem to have their own airship and those that do, built it themselves...Quote:

Ignoring my concerns of what may be limitations due to being on the house system (not an with issue your idea, just limited ships in general) - I really like the idea of customizeable ships and that they'd also be content in other things as well, the concept of being able to travel, content develop, fish off my own property is exceptionally pleasing and I liked the idea of the trade runs as well!
I added your thread to the one I created on airships just because I wanted to keep track of this ship/airship content since I really would like to see it in game. I think it's probably one of the most feasible ideas of a "house where you want" it ideas (where it's docked/resting). Which I love, unlike say asking for Wild Star system which I also love (and lets you put it where you want basically) but would likely require a lot more work. -
