Why is Yoshi-P's team repeating the original developer's mistakes?

FFXIV comes out - every item that drops off a mob can be used in something.

Great. Wonderful. Fits the whole idea that crafters are actually a class.

However, every item requires around 5 different materials, and each material has 3 different grades of quality. Leaving the realm of great.

Inventory fills up ridiculously fast, and with such a wide variety of items and no auction house, the system is cumbersome and stupid.

Quality of materials +1 and +2 are removed. Regardless, new developers still notice how ridiculous the sheer number of items there are in game and increase backpack size to 200. This is a bandaid to fix a much larger problem.

Now... You would think the new development team would learn from the mistakes which got them into this mess to begin with, right?

Wrong.

Each level of each materia have a multitude of variable qualities, making it so they do not stack.

tl;dr In 2.0, when it comes out in four years, we will all have 9000 inventory spaces and 12 retainers because all end game loot will have 25 different variable grades of quality for no reason. Yipee!

I have to completely agree about the materia. I just cannot understand why they couldn't stick to four grades of each instead of a million. Now not only do we get these clutter issues but finding the optimal materia is like looking for a needle in a hay stack, which makes selling these things as well as min-maxing a nightmare.

I'd understand if there was some great reason that dictates this is how it absolutely has to be, but I just can't figure out what that reason could possibly be.

Funny as I was just talking about this. I counted 224 or 234 ... I lost the total as my kids started fighting. -.- And yes, I went through the entire search in the Ul'Dah wards including adding any I-IVs that may not have been there. This doesn't mean there aren't more unaccounted for but still. Anyway, with each one of these having 2 different stat amounts that's anywhere from 448-468 INDIVIDUAL materia pieces! :eek: So yeah, needs to be addressed. Also with this arrival of goods, it's also difficult to figure out if the items for sale are the higher stat pool items or the lower of the 2. In other words, say retainer Bob has Manathrist I for 10K (MP+17) and retainer Jane has the same but for 6k (MP+14). Logic would dictate that Janes 6k materia is the lower of the 2; but no, Jane his helpful as HERS is the +17 and Bob is just taking advantage lol. So the Devs need to address that issue as well to give us a way to differentiate which of the 2 materia we are looking for.

Sorry to all the people who white knight these horrible design flaws that the current development team makes; if you're Main Class is lower than 50, you clearly don't play enough to have anything to contribute to any conversation.

After converting all my lower level dated gear into materia I realized the majority of the materia aren't worth the cost of the catalyst to bind them to an item... and each one takes up an individual inventory slot. 8 tier 1 strength materia that are all +2... worth less as materia than they were worth as the crappy rings I made them from.

Let it stack, and let it vary in tiers, not in strength within a given tier.

Agreed on the materia/catalyst inventory funness. Mayhaps a way to trade in unwanted and less marketable materia for guild seals. That still doesn't help with materia of the same tier with ANY attribute (i.e. having seven Attack +16's not stack up).

I remember a fair chunk of older mob drops being useless or unusable too. Gradually they got purposes, such as blue antelope hide -> chamois -> chamois spetch, but that lost it's use after Dark Materia showed it's head.

Unless there was another reason to use Chamois, I didn't find another recipe for it. And then the Hyena Hide, why was that there? Well... I guess there's a whole list of fun stuff that could be questioned based on the items being removed, no need for me to spout it off here.

No, it would not fix the issue. It would treat the symptoms but not cure the illness of a messy materia system. Simply adding a materia tab would only paper over the problem (kind of like what the EU leaders keep doing).

A much simpler fix would be to simply limit the the number of different materia. I mean, do we really need both +18 ATK and +20 ATK materia? The +18 only means there will be less of the one people actually want (+20), and nothing sucks like paying a fortune for +18 only to find a +20 for sale a few hours later. Man, I'd be kicking myself in the head if that happened.
