DPS question on Tanks

So with the new skills and abilities given to Paladin since patch 3.2...increasing Goring blade and royal authority damage...i tried comparing damage output on a paladin with Sword Oath compared to Warrior and Dark Knight with their normal attack buffs...and unless im missing something critical or doing the math wrong...am i correct in saying Paladins can deal more damage now than warrior and Dark???

Without buffs...Warriors strongest attack is 500...Dark is 450 (with Dark Arts) Paladin is 350

But Goring Blade is 240, but with damage over time can do 570 in total now? (might be wrong on that...originally it was 220 with a damage over time of 540...now its 240 with 570?

Does that mean technically Paladin can dish more damage now out of all the tanks, especially with sword oath????

No.

You can't just look at skills or combos in a vacuum like that to compare damage output

So how does it work? Im just not seeing how to properly calculate who does more damage.

You have to look at the entire kit.

WAR, for example, has:
Berserk for 50% extra damage.
Maim for 20% extra damage.
Storms Eye for 10% slash resist down
Abandon Stacks (up to 5) for 2% Crit each stack.
Can cross class Internal Release for more Crit.
oGCD of Brutal Swing.

Look at your PLD example. While yes, Goring Blade has high total potency, odds are if you're doing the Goring, RA x2 combo set, you're clipping the DoT.

You also only have Fight or Flight, the Sword Oath auto attack bonus, and Spirits Within for extra damage potential (off tanking wouldn't proc Shield Swipe so I'm not counting it).

DRK has several oGCDs, constant 20% boost from Darkside, and potent DOTs.

You can't say "since PLD has the highest total potency attack, they do the most damage".

If this were true, then they would have more damage than DPS classes, but they don't.

Yeah, i did look at the entire kit of the classes, but i didnt count the buffs too much bcc some last longer than others...ect...from what i rea don the net, Warrior has highest tank dps, Dark is second and Paladin third...

I just wanted some way to confirm that, or figure out how to "best" play my paladin to keep max damage output.

Is it fair to say that from what i said earlier Paladin has highest damage WITHOUT buffs???

That's a meaningless comparison, war can have 100% uptime on maim and storm's eye, drk can have 100% uptime on darkside, so the buffs have to be factored in. As well, in most circumstances a drk isn't doing their top dps combo every single rotation due to mp management so that further complicates things.

I wish there was a way to "change" our classes a little to suit the style of play we like. I like MT but also OT...i love playing tank but i love dealing high damage. I love Paladin skills more too for cover like Hallowed ground and such...but those warrior buffs are awesome for DPS...plus... im a sword user, not an Axe user. It sounds like WAR would be up my alley bcc it has the best DPS out of tanks...but they use a freaking Axe...i dont like...just my opinion.

I guess thats why we have attribute points? But they dont really help too much huh.
