Make or Buy?
I'm in the process of gearing up all my DoH classes. So far, I've obtained all the main hands with red crafter's scrips and JUST started making 170 gear (2 off hands, 4 accessories).
All this time, I've been doing my red gatherer's scrips weeklies and have a complete stack of Red Getherers' Scrip Tokens. I've been gathering the mats (Ooids and such), selling what I don't need for crafting. Progress is gated by Crafter's Scrip tokens.
I've found that i make gil like crazy selling off the excess mats (over 1M per day without doing that much farming) and my bank balance keeps going up. All the materia I need for melds is coming from my airships (solo FC).
While I love making my own gear, I think it might be faster just to buy it. Also, I've been using Red Crafter's scrips for body pieces (2/8 so far). Seems like I could go quicker by crafting bodies (it takes 2 weeks to get enough crafter's scrips for the 180 piece).
So, make or buy?

Up to you. Things to consider:
- How quickly do you want it? Buying is faster.
- Are you willing to spend the gil? This is less of a hurdle than it looks like since making the gear requires you to keep mats that you could otherwise sell, but still a consideration.
- Is it important to you to have done it all yourself? Personally I'm a stickler for wanting my own name to be on my crafted gear, but this isn't important to everyone.
-
That's a very subjective question.
In general, I tend to craft my own gear because I don't get any sense of achievement from buying of MB.
But if price is good, I would sometimes buy either the finished product or the mats to make it.
I'm sick of farming favors now so I'll probably be buying them a lot more now... as long as I saving don't drop below a certain threshold.

Seems like you've got the best of both worlds. Stacking gil and also collecting enough mats to craft the gear you want. I'd personally make them myself because I don't want someone else's name on my gear. Back when the grind to make crafting tools and gear was collecting MC demis and Ehcatl Sealants, I started buying those once I was making money. I just outsourced the collection portion. So maybe buy the mats and devote more time to crafting? No right answer really.

:o never ever use the tokens for the ilvl 180 gear you are compare 1-2 red tokens to get ilvl 170 gear HQ or ilvl 180 which cost you all your tokens and has less CP in this gear.
and every good crafter know CP more worth than everything else on crafting!

Craft it, 2 stars aren't that hard atm with the proper rotation and you can make gil selling excess favor items/materials you have, also don't ever, EVER, spend red scrips on the 180 gear, it's a bit late now but I can't even imagine wasting all those red scrips on the tools when you can make the better 170 versions for literally 1/25th of the scrip price @.@.
Though I imagine you did it because you didn't want to mess with grade V materia, they'll make that materia easier to get soon probably.
-
If you have a good supply of the materia go ahead and craft them up, I bought a few of the main hands but I also have an alt to get more red scrips.
-
I also like to have my name on my gear. At the same time, I look at the amount of gil I have and ask why the hell I don't spend it? Seriously, I still turn crap drops into NPCs for the 1 gil.
-
wait for red script its insane long and 170 its far better then 180 atm.
so i'll decide to craft on my onw.

LAZY Crafter = buy it
Real Crafter = make it
