Origins of the Harriers?

I speak of these guys. Are they heretics? Overly zealous Ishgardians? I don't recall anything in the game explaining these guys.

Some sort of heretics. They're also found in SVHM and I think the msq in western coerthas

I think they're pretty much just a branch of heretics that happened to expand into Mor Dhona. What, exactly, they're doing there is a mystery but I'd wager they may have been searching for crystals and supplies to bring back to support their activities back in Ishgard.

Based on this definition:
"a person who engages in persistent attacks on others or incursions into their land."

These harrier heretics just might be tasked with attacking others on the outskirts of their main HQ and might be far more aggressive?

Harriers are also runners, so they may very well go far from HQ to get - one way or another- supplies.

What they're doing in Mor Dhona? Who knows. But didn't a group of heretics ambushed supply carriers that were coming from Dragon Head into Rev. Toll?

The ones in Mor Dhoma might just be looking out for the supply schedule and then there's the fact that Midgardsomnr's body is there

Heretics, I wonder what they talk about between deaths. They might be a supply line to the ceorthas front, coerthas is pretty barren, after all.

I asked this question myself back in 2.0 while remorselessly slaughtering them to power up my relic weapon.

... if memory serves me right, somewhere in 3.0 someone said they were "heretical harriers," or something to that effect, so I believe they're an offshoot of the Ishgardian Heretics. Or something.

I believe they're affiliated with the Ishgardian heretics, based on where they are. I mean, they are right down the hill from where they can get a great view of Midgardsormr. It may be their base where they can watch him in case he reawakens.
