I can't keep up with the stupidly steep costs of IV materias of a 44 crit 31 det build, Is a 31 crit 22 det 22 piety/spsp a viable option to counter the steep costs?

Accuracy, unless you never plan to raid.
I built mine as 36 crit, 24 det, 15 acc (for a total of 24 acc). If I had the cash to redo it I would probably get as close to max acc as possible, then put the rest in crit.
Get your crit to 33 , Det to 24 and the rest into acc, you'll get bonus for all 3 and you're Acc at zeta will be a plus 33 which for SCH raiders is big.
Crit will cap out around +39, the missing out on the 15 Crit won't hurt if you're geared right as you'll only be truly missing out on a like a 1-2% increase
i have a 37/36/28 ; acc/crit/det Zeta. I don't remember what they were back at novus stage, but i did a no IV materia method.. kuz money (i had spent it all on a full det/crit nin novus). If i'd change it (which i planned on doing but now don't feel like it) i'd take out from the det and put the IV's into acc. but i do heavy dps in FCOB, i dunno if you do.
Edit: ok if i'm figuring it out right, it should have been a 30crit/23det/22acc novus. I think. I thought i did something else though.
As much crit as you can afford.
As much det as you personally want.
Rest accuracy.
shit I went Pie instead of acc... I dont miss so its ok. cant go wrong with a little extra pie.
You'll need 515 accuracy to never miss in coil as a caster, just saying. :)
The more I think about it, the more I think that Acc is THE best stat to meld to a SCH Novus. Those 40 odd extra points have by far the biggest impact on your role of all the secondary stats. 40 crit is nice, but the extra crit chance it adds is tiny, same with det, but 40+ Acc is around 8% of your FCoB requirement, which is huge on one piece of gear.
