I currently have a private estate hall built and was wondering whether it would be possible to change it to an FC Estate Hall when I start up an FC (and reach the appropriate FC rank)? Or would I have to purchase another plot?

You would have to purchase another plot, but you won't have to relinquish your personal house, you can own both FC and personal house.
