I've been getting severe lag since 2.4 was released. It's making the game almost unplayable at times. It generally only happens on peak times (8PM to 11PM EST) but I've had it happen earlier. I was completely fine before 2.4 was released. I don't get this kind of lag in other games that I do in FFXIV.
I play on PS4 if that makes any difference.

We are also full swing in the sports world on multiple fronts...all that extra streaming from various custom packages for multiple sports. We are also just days from an election...increased streams on that front. Oh, and seasons just changed and shopping is on the rise.
Could go on and on with examples...but the TLDR is that internet usage is continually peaking upwards of 50% above the norm at any given time of day in various sectors. Periodically some of those peaks compound one another and we have actually seen overall usage break the 180% barrier quite often. It's not just games being impacted.

Sorry but my ping is fine and constant. This is a bad of SquareEnix and the lags are horrible if you want to play at prime time.
The servers are to weak!!
Also the emotes of spells (just the effect when it hits you) from other people is in time. But where you see them and when you see the spell progress as there movement is more then a second late.
And about ISP, SquareEnix has NOT supported IPv6, that caused to decrease the possibility’s of routing.
Also: no problems with other games in USA

Yeah, I figured it'd be easier just to cancel and wait till in the future when the lag gets fixed, or something done about it. I'd recommend the same thing. This has been a problem with every online venture that SE has had. FFXI was no different. I gave up on that game because they couldn't control lag. Different log in system, different server set up, whatever, it's something that SE has had years of experience with. It's funny how other games in general don't have this problem. Even though they "go through different nodes", except this over all doesn't make sense when you think about it. What's worse is, back then they had MASSIVE DDoS attacks going every few days. As enjoyable as the game is, it just isn't worth not being able to play consistently when you have to 1. pay, and 2. have so many other options out there. It's frustrating is all it is, which is exactly what a game shouldn't be. We come to these things to get away from all that.
The only thing that I've noticed in this game that is not different from other games is that when you come to the forums, there always a certain small group of people that linger constantly in the forums instead of playing the game (suggesting that it's a fan boy or secretly a forum rep) who berates everyone else saying that no one else knows anything (aka bullying). Forgive me if I find this whole scenario a bit annoying and find it hard to believe half of what is said by these bullies.
I come here to see if I can find anything useful, and as expected, all I find is what I just described. It's interesting though, because in most other games, when this exact same thing has happened, sooner or later they've gotten it fixed. This would suggest that 1. SE just doesn't have the pull as some larger developers, 2. They don't care, or 3. it is indeed their own fault because the servers are weak. I'm sorry (no I really not), but I suspect 2 and 3. So call me clueless all you want, it's not helping the subscription rate for FFXIV and it's not helping the overall reputation of SE. What I have discovered is that often, useful posts get flagged and removed. -

I played XI for over 8 years, the entire time on cable broadband from TWC/RR--started when they were still only offering 2Mb down, 512Kb up in my area. Only experienced unplayable lag and packet loss TWICE with that game, and as I've stated on this forum multiple times, my ISP resolved it. Once was an issue with a Verizon hop in the DC/VA area, the other time it was somehow in Nova Scotia that was causing a problem.
This was nothing new... as I've also stated, I experienced the same problems with the earlier releases in the Diablo series, Freespace 1 & 2 (space flight/dogfight sim...greatly impacted by lag and packet loss) as well as some RTS games like TA and such. EVERY TIME I had issues, I got my ISP involved and THEY resolved it for me. Don't know the specifics on how... but they took care of it.
In the case of XIV... the pattern has held true as well, ever since Beta4. The night of this last big patch, they switched me back to Cogent. Connections were solid as usual when I first get switched to them. I came home Thursday and my modem was thunking, trying to bond channels on the upstream side--something it had never done before. Reset it to defaults and bounced it, and TWC had updated things locally so I could now bond 8 down and 4 up (previously was 8/1), and I'd been switched to TATA. Note that is twice in one week they've altered routing in efforts to stay ahead of congested corridors. This has become a regular thing since we got things escalated on the problems we've been having.
We now have headroom to potentially hit their top tier speeds in our area (the 300Mb packages) once they get everything else in place. They switched me to TATA now, and my response times have been for the most part around 60ms, barring the odd glitch that still crops up around Hilton Head that drops a 120--180 hit at just under a 2% rate. When those spikes start popping up in primetime, it cascades down the line and affects everything that follows after. That's the nature of the beast--latency compounds and amplifies problems as you go further down your route. It's something we've been working on since launch to resolve--both local and remote latency issues.
When all this started, we were getting upwards of 3second spikes within the TWC networks, and up around 300Ms spikes at the peering levels just getting to Ormuco. Since I've gotten the matter escalated, they've been working harder to stay ahead of the congestion. When things breach the 180-200ms mark at the peering level, we start looking to get things moved. Within a few business days, I get re-routed to another partner and I'm back under 80ms for a while until the congestion catches up and we revamp again. On the more local side, they've split our nodes out. Florence is now sharing hardware also assigned to Hilton Head, Myrtle Beach, and some areas of Columbia. All in an effort to combat the localized congestion in an effort to keep things from spiraling out of control further down our routes.
And who has done all this work and kept me playing consistently since launch?

And no, I'm not an SE employee, and I don't linger constantly in the forums instead of playing the game. Ever heard of multi-tasking? That was after all one of the big selling points of Windows at one time--being able to run multiple applications at once. I just happen to have some experience with these types of problems as well as with the company (not to mention, I used to work in IT years ago), and I've spent a lot of time troubleshooting this stuff over the years. People come to a user-to-user forum like this to exchange ideas in the hopes of finding solutions. That is what we are doing here...sharing knowledge we've gained from experience, in the hopes of improving things for everyone. That is what these forums are for... or did you not read the guidelines posted in the sticky welcoming you to the forums?
Take the advice given by those that have come before if you like. Or ignore it and continue to blame an entity that really doesn't have any influence over much of what plagues the US infrastructure that is largely at fault for these issues. You have that right. But please don't go around belittling efforts of those trying to push to make things better for everyone.
