The only thing worse than adding a cash shop...

...is people whining endlessly about how a cash shop for purely cosmetic items is THE WORST THING EVER TO HAPPEN IN THE HISTORY OF VIDEO GAMES.

Well, that and 1.0. 1.0 was also worse.

EDIT: And everything that happened involving Wildstar.

Honestly, there's a lot of stuff that's worse, but I felt like limiting myself to stuff involving MMOs for purposes of defining "worst".

EDIT 2: Also City of Heroes getting shut down. That was much worse.

As was that time I tried to create three HQ Isolator Components before getting a crafting class to 50.

And that time I got banned from the beta forums for suggesting that someone commit suicide in protest of Fire II not being named Firaga. Although that was less "worse" and more "still worth it". Holy hell...yeah, that garbage parade was also worse.

Would love to see a quote where people said that the cash shop is the worst thing ever to happen in the history of video games.

I must admit, the amount of venom and anger aimed at this just boggles my mind. To be fair though, such actions are coming from both sides of the debate...

Are you kidding me? It's awesome. Every single time there's a live letter or some new info, there's tons of complaining, which means tons of lolz. I always look forward to seeing the QQ. Let my cup runneth over.~

So long as we still get the same amount of vanity stuff as we have been in game I don't mind a cash shop.

Tbh, the main problem is if SE can truly keep it a "cosmetic item" cash shop, because I know from the countless mmos I've played, a good majority of them start off with that intention and then a few months/year down the road, start throwing in pay to win stuff, so we'll see how this plays out here. Purely cosmetic items in a cash shop isn't too bad, it's just when they decide to throw other things in there for more money.

a lot of the whining is ridiculous but personally, I think it detracts from the game, even with cosmetic items, mounts, and minions.

As someone else brought up, from now on they will have to determine if an item will be made available by in game means or if they want to make a quick buck on it instead.

As long as they don't sell powerful gear, more power to them. I've bought a few awesome mounts from a certain other MMO that shall remain nameless. But, never been a fan of purchasing pets/minions. So, I'm curious as to what mounts they will sell. If I like them, I'll buy em'.
