Point of Materia

So does anyone know what the point of Materia is? So far I haven't seen a real use for it except my relic quest and green crafted gear that's either for crafters, starter gear, or really expensive gear. So what's the point of Materia when 95% of gea especially progression gear doesn't have a slot for them? Or am I completely missing something?

PvP gear, or for crafted gear instead of grinding Mythos (or while grinding Mythos for relic upgrades).

It's for that 5% called crafted gear.

Its a cheesy FF7 plugin. In a later patch 2.8 Yuffie will steal all your materia and you will actually be gald she did since they're useless for anything other than Craft equipment.

The majority of Materia goes into:
- DoH/DoL gear
- Top tier DoM/DoW crafted gear (currently i90)
- PvP Gear

For all intents and purposes it's pretty useless to meld any gear on the way to 50

It's a stupid system. DoW get to progress by having more fun, but for crafters and gatherers, the only way to progress to their "endgame" is to pay a ton of gil to get stats high enough to gather or make an item that does not have much actual significance in the game.

Gee... it's like you haven't seen the 'atma is a stupid progression' threads...


Anyways materia is used to make money off of server first racers on patch day... or to be server first yourself since your not getting whatever tome set it is on that day, and will have to make amends with the highest crafted gear and stack secondary stats.

when yoshi-P said a big change to materia was coming , i was expecting them to turn them into something similar to gems in WOW for all kind of equipments ( allagen or myth gear ) imo that make materia so much better
