How are the popular threads determined?

I've noticed the popular threads displayed under the dev tracker on the forum top page don't seem to be listing the actual popular threads.

For example, currently I see "SE's Ideals" (32 replies, 3,002 views) listed as the most popular thread, compared to say "Is anyone else really disappointed with the nerfs coming in 2.2?" (304 replies, 16,054 views) which is not listed as a popular thread at all.

Is this working??

The Dev Tracker is just to track which threads the Devs comment/reply in (which is usually SE created threads...).

Probably has to do with the amount of likes posts have.

Edit: though the "SE's Ideals" has 47 likes and the other has 69 likes (just on the original post that is). Must be calculating some kinda ratio I guess?? It's mysterious to say the least...
