Quality of Life Improvement I'd Like to See for BLM

I certainly don't think BLM are in need of buffs, but it would really be nice if they allowed firestarter procs to stack up to 2. It would help reduce the variance in BLM DPS and really improve the feel of the job overall.

For those who are unfamiliar with the Firestarter mechanic, 40% of your Fire I casts proc Firestarter which allows your next Fire III to be instant cast and cost no mana. The issue is that since you are chain casting Fire I during your Astral Fire phase, you don't receive the Firestarter proc until you are halfway through casting your next Fire I, which means if that cast of Fire I also causes a proc, you lose a proc. This makes BLM DPS even more RNG dependent than it already is.

Not only are you hoping for a 5% chance proc on Thundercloud, but you're also hoping for never getting back to back procs on your 40% chance Firestarter proc.

This change would end up being a net gain in DPS for BLM which is probably unnecessary given how strong BLM DPS already is, but perhaps they could combine it with a slight decrease in potency of Fire III or some other spell to result in a net wash in DPS. It would make the class more fun, more consistent, and less of a bummer when you only ever seem to proc back to back Firestarter procs and never get the desired every other Fire spacing.

Thoughts?

Would be nice. I'd like to be able to save charges of firestarter when I know movement phases are coming up. I already do this for one charge but that's a DPS loss if I don't use it. Double proc is a poorly thought out system. Why fix the spell speed buff on 2 spells when there is another glaringly obvious mistake with BLM design?

I would say BRDs have the same problem with blood but they expend it so fast and it procs much more often than firestarter.

I agree, it would be nice. I've learned to cope with this by tossing in a Scathe at the end of every other Fire I cast. Gives me time to see the Proc for Fire III and get it off without wasting it with another Fire 1. The GCD may slow by a second or so but i think the net gain is much more

Sigh....are you seriously trying to trade with SE? You have to be outright insane if you think they are going to be fair about it. They will outright slash Fire III to be trash tier spell right next to Freeze.

Ask for QOL improvements without suggesting negativities. I do support the idea of having Fire III procs stack up to 2-3 charges but I rather it stays the same if SE going to touch Fire III potency.

P.S.

Only few, handful, rare kind of BLM do extremely well damage wise outside AoE fights (not saying or suggesting or thinking I'm one of them), the majority suffer to cross the 200 DPS mark. So yeah, ask for positive and let SE worry about the negative, that if they ever listen to us when it comes to BLM balance of course.

Edit: Fire III procs represent 25%-30% of our total single target damage, so yeah we can't afford to have the potency touched.

BLM dps, as it currently stands, really isn't that strong. When stacked up against other DPS jobs, when played correctly under ideal conditions, we are near the bottom of the barrel. (for single targets)

For AoE, its a different story.

You know, you could resolve the fire starter proc issue by casting thunder 2, in between a fire 1. Say your dot is running low, and you are casting fire 1. That's when you toss a thunder 2. If you get a fire starter then success you just helped your dps and keep your dot up.

With changes to scathe, it is somewhat pointless to cast imo. You are better off casting a thunder 2 or something >.>; If Scathe was off GCD that would be a different story.

Scathe is actually good to spam. It's instant cast and gets the first hit in. Like in FATEs, I do spam it a lot when I'm in a party, and I've even got Gold rankings when I came up to the FATE when it was finishing just by getting in 3 spammed Scathes. Fire I, II, and III take time to build up while casting, but Scathe is fun if you just want a burst of damage instantly. So as I mentioned, it's good for FATEs.

And then you do what during the umbral ice phase? Spam scathe (horrible idea), cast blizzard 1 (another horrible idea), or twiddle your thumbs?
