Omnirod/Elder Staff; nomenclature reversal??
This is a relatively minor issue compared to what's actually of import but it's been eating away at me since before 2.1 was released, having read about it in the 2.1 patch notes:
Is it possible that the names of the Primal weapons "Omnirod" and "Elder Staff" were erroneously switched? (or was this intentional?)
Allow me to explain if you're not familiar with the nomenclature and usages of Staves and Rods in traditional FF lore:
As long as I can remember, since FFI, a STAFF was reserved for WHM usage (in some cases also for the Devout job) and a ROD was reserved for BLMs (in some cases also for the Magus job). In fact it's become a sort of paradigm that these weps were traditionally used for the above mentioned jobs..
To add to that an even more specific example can be given using the exact names of the Primal weapons in question:
in FFIII the "Omnirod" was the best weapon that could be attained for a BLM/Magus and the "Elder Staff" was specifically for the healer classes WHM/Devout..
This is one of the reasons this irks me so...
Any dire fan of the FF series knows that you'd never equip a WHM with a rod, EVER!! Even if you wanted to, you simply couldn't!!
So, back to the main question:
Is the Elder Staff (name) originally intended for WHMs, and Omnirod (name) for BLMs, or was this a mistake on the devs part? (which seems unlikely.)
one last note:
Is this due to translation issues?
I personally highly doubt it.. Having played the first 6 FFs in Japanese (including a fwe spin-offs), and being proficient in Hiragana/Katakana, a rod is a rod and a staff is a staff, regardless of language..
Please Devs, if this was intended, so be it.. I have both these weps and am just gonna have to get used to the fantastical reversal of FF lore nomenclature..
If this was a mistake, don't be shy ^^, please adjust it!
Thank you!! :**
