PvP: substandard afterthought or work in progress?

Teleport hacking, bunny hopping, and more! I actually thoroughly enjoy the concept of PvP in this game (so far), and the heavy reliance it has on LOS, but it feels a bit... unpolished. Is SE really invested in this, or are they just coping out again?

I mean, people say "well, FF is PvE", but the thing is a self fulfilling prophecy. XI was a heavy PvE game as SE made a production decision to alienate the PvP community with substandard PvP content, not because the game itself was somehow incapable of having great content all around. Are we seeing history repeat itself?

The director himself came in the PvP sub-forum and talked about some issues, so I'd say they really do care about it. I've seen developers make something, then never touch it again (example: Anything besides Summoner's Rift in League of Legends), and this doesn't seem to be the case.

I don't consider it to be substandard. It just came out. There are bugs, and they are known, and planned to be addressed in 2.15. Some glaring balance issue are also being addressed in the patch as well. Yoshida made a post talking about balance issues and bugs, so it seems to me they care about getting that stuff taken care of.

Also, you're wrong about XI PvP- it was actually pretty well done, but you had to do an annoying quest to participate and there was basically no reward whatsoever, not even cosmetic, so there was zero incentive to participate. If they had kept the ballista royale going, they probably could have taken things further.

atleast no one is teleport-backstabbing you like in some other game.

I've only ever seen one person teleporting in PvP , not that it helped his team win. I'm going to say it's a WIP, because when everything works as it should, and you have people who know what they are doing, it can be both challenging and fun.

Not all bots teleport. Some, like this guy Hakai from my server, are so poorly programmed that they do almost nothing.

Note the game duration, his damage done, his number of deaths, and his incredible ability to run into walls for long periods of time.

That's kind of sad really. Who in the world is lazy enough to bot their way through a PvP mode? It kind of defeats the whole point of having one.
