What's the deal with "Goggle" Items?

One of FFXIV's infinite mysteries is the lack of lenses on Goggle titled Equipment...

Let's take a look at how dangerous these goggles are without lenses...

Steel Goggles; A Gathering piece of equipment. Why wouldn't these have lenses? Between chips of rock flying past your face and the tons of pollen you get floating around when you're hacking away at plants or trees, even the water the fish splash on you when you reel them in. All three gathering professions pose serious threat to your vision which including: Injury, Illness, or the loss of an eye.

Now lets focus on the fighting goggle types: Plundered Goggles. Perfect for hacking and slashing and protecting your eyes from the blood of your enemies. Also perfect for riding through sandstorms, rainstorms, snowstorms, and gale storms. Except.. they have no lenses.. so they're useless in all of the above.

Why.. do goggle type items have no lenses? Why is it that they do not exist. Also.. Glasses.. Clear Glasses do not have lenses despite us using lenses when crafting them. What is this? They can't possibly be there..

Why SE! WHY!REVEAL TO US THIS MYSTERY!

The goggles, they do nothing!

They do have lenses, they're just clear glass and the game doesn't render reflection effects.

I'd rather there be a grey tint to them if they're clear. But right now it's like they're invisible. Non Existent.. Even in XI the glasses had some tint to them to show that they did indeed have lenses. They don't have to have reflection to them. Just a tint to make them seem like what they're purposed for. Right now it's just... two holes in leather or a wire frame.
