■Area and coordinates: Living Memory / All
■ Platform: Steam - but it affects (at least) PS5 as well

■Steps:
1. Be in a party, and in the same zone as the other person teleporting
2. Have party member teleport to any Living Memory aetheryte

To give more context: The aetherytes on the map are capitalized properly (example: "Leynode Mnemo", "Leynode Pyro", and "Leynode Aero") but when prompted to accept a teleport from a party member, they appear completely undercased (example: "leynode mnemo", "leynode pyro" and "leynode aero") - they appear undercased within the chat log as well. Every other aetheryte in the game does not have this issue.

Thank you!

In the English version of job action descriptions, the term "a magicked barrier" is occasionally used, which does not exist in the Japanese version.
The Japanese description reads as follows: "... also grants Differential Diagnosis, creating a barrier that absorbs…"

In the English version, different verbs are used: "erect" appears with "magicked barrier" while "create" appears with "barrier", and "nullify" and "absorb" are used with both. No such distinction exists in the Japanese version. Additionally, "barrier" is used exclusively for actions that absorb damage, and Mesotes uses "shield" rather than "barrier". The same is true of the French version (bouclier) and the German version (Schild).

"Kwehnhighwark closes their eyes and gives a contented kweh."

"Kwehnhighwark ruffles their feathers indignantly."

In both instances it should be "his eyes"/"his feathers" because the Company Chocobo is a gelding as established by both quest and the mount description.

'My Little Chocobo' shows that the Company Chocobo is male. All three NPCs will say "And here he is! The fellow has been in high spirits the past few bells. He must have sensed that his master was coming!", "Heh heh! I daresay he likes his name!", and "But do forgive him if he doesn't respond when summoned in crowded areas or monster-infested lairs. Chocobos are stout-hearted creatures, but they have their limits."

In addition, the mount guide description states that Company Chocobos are almost all geldings of the rouncey variety, but that there are also destriers and jennets (which are names for different sizes to accommodate different sized races). Geldings are male.

There isn't any question about the sex of our Company Chocobo, so the English localization shouldn't introduce any by mistake.

ETA: If the goal was to maintain some room for personal headcanons, "its eyes"/"its feathers" would be the correct usage, keeping consistency with how all other chocobos and mounts of unknown sex are described in the mount guide.

Hello.

I'd like to report a localization mistranslation.

In the "Kindled Spirit" quest, Jullus says that the dish "buuz" is similar to "dumplings." However, in the original, he mentions a completely different dish: "pirozhki".
Buuz are indeed dumplings, but the pirozhki he mentions are not, as they are made with yeast dough and are either fried or baked. In the "A Grave Presentiment" quest, he again specifically refers to "pirozhki." I find it strange that this word was removed during localization, while other "Garlean" dishes like "borscht" were retained.

Perhaps this translation was done to avoid controversy about buuz, albeit even the dish model in the game looks more like mantou (which are definitely similar to pirozhki). However, Jullus is credited with referring to an entirely different dish, with a different cooking method and a different dough. This may not seem like a big deal, but in a cultural context it makes a significant difference.

The English localization continues to deviate from the actual Japanese used in several voiced scenes and lines from NPCs during battle content encounters.

This also means that most of the text in the EN version also deviates from the JP text.

I would really love it if we had the option to have the English subtitles/text to be a direct translation of the original Japanese, rather than what is provided in the English dub when playing with Japanese audio selected.

It is very frustrating to be stuck with the EN Dub subtitles when I understand enough Japanese to notice times when the lines are completely different.

I strongly believe that the integrity of the original text/dialogue is important and it is frustrating that I cannot experience it because I am not fluent in Japanese.

Dear Localization team,

Dear Localization team,

I would like to raise awareness of an ongoing, current issue with the localization which has been making the dialogue harder to read. This is due to an accidental use of 'they' in several places where 'it' would have been the correct word to use. :)

Accidental use of 'they' has happened in the following categories:

Use of 'They' to refer to Systems, Concepts and Governments (not the people within)

Use of 'They' to refer to Animals

Use of 'They' to refer to Known Characters

-------------------

1) The use of 'They' to refer to Systems, Concepts and States

I would like to start with a line from the beginning of patch 7.5, to show that this is still an ongoing issue. In it, G'raha Tia states:

Quote:

"[...] I have no doubt that Alexandria will provide much-needed support for their neighbor."

If G'raha had instead stated that the people of Alexandria will provide support to their neighbor, then this would be a correct use of 'they'. Instead, G'raha refers to a state as a whole, which is an 'it'. The state of Alexandria is not a plural.

2) The use of 'They' to refer to Animals

An animal is either a he, a she, or an it. An animal is never a 'They'.

This showed most clearly in a Quote by the Stray Feline in the White Wraith quest:

Quote:

(While referring to the Seikret mount) "My, would you look at that... It seems they've grown fond of you."

In its current form, this is simply incorrect grammar. The correct line would have been "It seems it has grown fond of you."

3) The use of 'They' to refer to Known Characters and Voidsent

Enuo is a Voidsent in FFXIV. In FFV, he was a great mage, specifically referred to as male. This has strong parallels to Cloud of Darkness as a returning character.

Quote:

"Wielding the boundless power of the void, they rise from depths unfathomable─the dread sovereign Enuo!"

Voidsent have followed specific gender rules in the past. Voidsent are either an 'it' because they are undefinable like a Voidsent Bomb - or they are a 'he' or 'she'. Cloud of Darkness as a returning character is a 'she' and no reason was given for deviating from this with Enuo.

In FFV, Enuo is strictly referred to as a 'he'. As there is no indication in the original Japanese text that the FFXIV writers changed this as part of some character overhaul, he should still be referred to as a 'he', not a 'they' - just like Cloud of Darkness.

-------------------

I hope some attention will be paid to this issue. It would very easy to resolve some of these things, especially the referral to beasts and concepts such as states as 'they'.

NPC: Produce Producer
Zone: Island Sanctuary (Home Sweet Hideaway)
Client Language: English
Client: Windows (Steam)

Reproduction Steps:
1. Speak to Produce Producer
2. Click "Purchase seeds"
3. Select any seed to purchase. For my example I'll choose "Isleberry Seeds"
4. A confirmation box opens up that says: "以下のアイテムをseafarer's cowrie×2と交換します。

bag of isleberry seeds×1"

Extra notes:
1. This appears to have been introduced in the last patch or so as I have previously purchased seeds from this NPC with no differences in my computer's locale configuration and previously it was in English.
2. I do have both the English and Japanese locales installed on my PC but English is the primary one and that is the one my client is set to.

I've been playing for 4 yrs daily. Spent hundreds on the game store. There is ONE alt i deleted that I wish I could get back but I accidentally wasted the first year I played the game. I was used to WoWs character restoration practices. I really would appreciate the limit being increased from 1 for the WHOLE life of the account. Thank you.
