    Dark Knight in Abyssea

I am concerned with my Dark Knight and would like to ask a
    few questions.

Ill start with an introduction. My name is Cyrusskorrey AKA CK or Cy
My Dark Knight 75 is Pre-abyssea and Pre Level cap.

I recently went into abyssea as DRK75 and found that None of my WSs
did any decent damage. i was throwing out 100-600max.
my normal damage was out doing my WS damage.
where my MNK75 and NIN75 were tossing out 1000-2000 max.

Besides leveling to 90. is there something i missed.
Is Dark Knight just not meant for abyssea?

I was using Atmas: VV GH and RR.

My darks gear is all endgame level 75 style gear.

lack of a critical hit ws is what hurts drk and sam inside abyssea, there is just no way around it. The only way to make drk comparable is to do empy gsword.

Outside abyssea its probably in the top 3-4 dd jobs now due to the LR fix. SE still has job adjustments coming so we just have to be patient. But honestly as soon as you are able to get to, get to work on caladbolg. Its just that good, but remember that your ws numbers still won't be on war or mnk level, but your total dmg with LR and the aftermath from torcleaver will push you up pretty high.

I have received my Caladbolg and yes it is that awesome so I completely agree with that statement. In the meantime if you want big number ws's switch to gs, spinning slash and groundstrike seldom dissappoint, very strong ws's against all enemies. For scythe I have had really good luck with Spiral Hell, at least til my scythe capped and I got all my att + gear then guillotine makes a little bit of a recovery. Overall just keep workin on gettin caught up and remember RR has broken so many ws's that its not the least bit fair.

P.S. you could try /thf and sa ws's for huge numbers with RR, and get atma of the apocalypse, drk's best friend if you ask me.

I disagree with alot of this well all of it until you said guillotine .....

guillotine is actually a strong weaponskill with a 3.875 fTP and 25% str/mnd mod it makes Spinning look like crap with capped PDIF!

the ONLY thing spinning will even be close at (took ground strike off the list because its small boost to mods and lower FTP with higher cratio mod still makes it weaker than spinning) is mobs where you cannot cap attack/cratio

there is NO other time that guillotine loses. its just that big of a weaponskill. (other than no crit QQ)

What the OP was seeing was most likely a cratio issue because in exp partys even the damage wont kick in to around level 85 no mater how leet your gear is (unless you can magicly cap you skills each level than 80 is safe but GL bro)

Jar, have you ever found a comment on here you haven't disagreed with? Seriously everytime I see you post its a disagreement with something. Now I find myself about 50/50 with your points, so your 50% right in my book. Now as for spinning slash, I have always done more damage with a gs and spinning slash than I do with scythe and guillotine excluding souleater activated because well its a 4 hit ws and souleater nuff said, so what your saying is that I'm lying about what has happened on my char with my gear setup, and thats just bs. I use twilight scythe as my main and Kriegsmesser (Until I got caladbolg) and I had +2 Head, Body, Hands, Perle legs (Yes I know lolperle while I was waiting for something else which was Jingnang) and Ace's on feet. Rest of my gear is also good, and yet everytime I'd use guillotine with my capped scythe skill at 90, it would usually not break 1k on nms and barely 1.5k on peons. Now my spinning slashs would do 1.7k on nms and 2k+ on peons, so if you were me what would you say? Also you disagree that Caladbolg is really that good, thats sad. Finally ftp for is .875, now its a 4 hit ws which equates to 3.5 whereas spinning has 2.5 at 100% AND STR 30% INT 30%, so thats 2 stats a drk natively has good values in and it has higher percents of them. Btw just a thought are you using ws torques/belts cuz I don't have the torques and I lacked the belts the last time I had a test of strenght against the two.

Additional hits on multi hit weaponskills as well as double triple attacks all have an FTP of 1

i vote you reevaluate your guillotine set because it is mathematically FAR superior to spinning slash unless you need the cratio boost.

You also do not gear for INT or MND on either of the weaponskills so because spinning has a int mod doesn't put it anywhere ahead because thats a difference of only a few points.

My base guillotine on NMs is about 1.6K~ unless they are to strong than its lower but its normaly about the same as Spinning on big stuff.

on small stuff its about 2.6K~4K (double triple attack on highs) while spinning is 1.5~2.7K( same on highs)

Also i disagree with most things because they are WRONG most of this forum is dead wrong about EVERYTHING(not dart and afew other ppl they are good :P). and i hate seeing FALSE information on a thread asking for help.

^^ THats my guillotine set too! ^^

also i thought caladbolg was behind durring my first testing with it i thought otherwise after last resort was there to help with attack and boost aftermath.

jar's just mean and impatient with people.

    A true dark knight~

also to the OP, work on the bale +2 set (obviously I know) getting full+2 let me dump over 30 pieces of gear and saved me so much inventory space. Feel free to ask any questions that you have. You will get some good info, just ignore the little bit of arguing that we have. It ALWAYS happens lol. (i'm just as guilty as anyone)

To Jar: Out of sheer curiosity I would like to know how you can consistently see 2.6k Guillotines, triple/double attack notwithstanding. I'm a huge fan of the weapon skill, however I can't possibly see how you can catch damage like that even with your superb gear. I'm not flat-out calling you a liar, I just have my doubts. The modifiers for the weapon skill just don't seem to play along with your numbers. Your guillo gear is badass by anyone's standard, don't get me wrong, the math just doesn't support your claims.

A 90 DRK with a 90 Apoc, 200 STR, 130 MND, capped pDIF, and all 4 strikes hitting the intended target should see at MOST 2,474 damage alone, 2536 with an elemental gorget OR belt, and 2,598 with both, given the best case scenario, scaling upwards with extra attacks, of course. To save room in my post, I'll forgo posting my maths, they're convoluted at best, but I have it available if you would like to see it.

To the OP... Damage will suck early on post-75 in abyssea, and like was posted earlier, 90% of the time it's the level correction/pDIF problem. It WILL get better as your level and skill improve. I don't play Dark Knight as a DD job anymore, not in FFXI Abyssea, at least. I gear more toward a support role that can throw out some decent damage and a decent WS occasionally. I'm still working on my Lv 85 Caladbolg, so I can't lay any claims to that of course. Basically I sub Dancer to everything now. With an A+ rating in Scythe, Violent Flourish rarely misses or fails to stun on things that aren't immune to it, and healing waltz really helps out the WHM in the event he/she gets silenced or is otherwise incapacitated. This set-up was invaluable for low man Glavoid, Carabosse, and Sobek spams, but it's far from ideal.

Basically if you sum up all my ramblings, play the job how you enjoy to play it. We kind of got screwed as far as weapon skill damage is concerned, and "slow" attack speeds don't help either, although the latter can be mitigated. There's better options in abyssea, but I have fun with the job, and really that's all that matters. Get your +2 gears as Dart suggested, work on an empyrean that isn't the scythe, and don't get discouraged. We got spoiled the last update, hopefully there's more to come.
