    Video card driver incompatibilities

FFXIs engine is quite old and as such newer drivers seem to have a lot of problems with XI, are there any plans to address this?

I haven't updated my video drivers in years because I know if I do I'll lose that "golden" video card driver that makes FFXI work flawlessly and be stuck with horrendous laggy gameplay.

Buying a new PC or video card can very often lead to being unable to play FFXI in any reasonable state, few years back I had to buy 3 different video cards and play for days with drivers to get it to run propely. I can honestly say that if I had not been successfull in getting it to run well I would of seriously considered quitting because laggy FFXI isn't fun at all.

FFXI also seems to have problems on some laptops with HID devices causing stutters.

If you haven't updated your graphics card drivers in years, then you're most likely having worse problems with every other game in existence....

I have a Radeon HD 4850 with the latest drivers. Game works fine.

My mistake, I forgot that if it worked fine for you that must be the case for every other player.

Unfortunately, it's not just FFXI that suffers this dilemma--it's pretty much most games pre-DX9/10--especially if you are on a post XP Microsoft OS. That is more an issue with how the older API interface is just mucked up and virtuallly ignored since MS decided to revamp the DX architecture.

Only way to really remedy it is for either SE to upgrade FFXI to be fully DX compliant with 9.0c and up, or for MS, ATI, and nVidia to get off their duff and more thoroughly test the products/drivers for backwards compatibility before release.

Pee in one hand and poop in the other to see which fills up faster.......

I didn't say that. But you implied that modern drivers don't work; they do. You havent upgraded your vidoe card because you think more modern ones wont work. They will. Not absolutely all of them, no, but most of them should.
