    [Dev1017] Accomplice and Collaborator

    It is really great that you are increasing the range for these abilities. As it stands their use is quite limited by that limited range.

    However

    To really be relevant, these two abilities need to be on seperate and/or lowered recast timers as well. Losing the ability to use Collaborator by using Accomplice is unreasonable. Especially given that the recast time is 5 minutes on Accomplice.

    If you want us to be able to help manage the flow of any party with these enmity abilities, a 5 minute recast is way too long. Keeping them tied to the same recast timer is only going to significantly limit their utility for this purpose. Accomplice isn't even worth its own 5 minute recast timer, let alone preventing collaborator use for 5 minutes as well.

    Agreed. The limited role of hate manipulation, one of the few roles I personally believe THF was more or less designed for, is saddening. With such a large number of our abilities working around hate manipulation I find it very annoying how limited the use of these abilities are.

    10 years ago Squaresoft was great. 10 years ago Hironobu Sakaguchi left Squaresoft. 10 years ago Square's profits were at an all time high. In the last 10 years their profits have done nothing but decline. Coincidence, I think not. Do yourself and the fans a favor SE, bring back Sakaguchi. Bring back the awesome you once had.

    It's a step in the right direction, assuming that it's a significant increase (to 20 yalms or more).
    I've learnt to make do with collaborator for tanking, and accomplice only in a dire situation (eg I wasn't supposed to be tanking, but the tank just died). I guess it would be nice to have them on separate timers, or at least using accomplice only prevented collaborator for 1 minute but can't re-use accomplice for 5.

    I'm not going to lie, i always complain about Coll/accomp range being so short its absolutely worthless because by the time you run over to the mage/player who got hate they're likely dead because you need t be up their Ass to use the ability.

    So I'm happy this update is extending the range.

    But i can't be the only one who saw "Job adjustments" then "Thief" and was like "!!!!!!!" then became vehemently disappointed that this is all we were getting?

    Its a good thing i have TH i guess... TH gives SE a reason to keep us mediocre

    Yeah, that was my exact reaction. There were a couple of "outrage" threads on the general discussion forum as well lol.

    Having said that I don't think this is all we are getting either. This BETTER not be all we are getting! I think (I hope!) we'll have an idea of what their plan is for THF in August.

    91-95 We'll get a new Mug, that doesn't work on anything special, still can't mug cruor, and occasionally inflicts an Ailment. Also to balance it steals 10x less gil than normal mug.

    We might get Shield Def Bonus or some other useless 'fluff' ability we wont use these levels because we have a whole F- in Shield and SE doesn't know what to do with us. its like "You lost but heres your parting gift!" game show type thing.

    96-99. We might see Dual Wield III, but probably not. They'll probably give us a 3rd "Collab" type ability that takes 90% of the Targets Enmity, but has 10 minute recast. And will never be used, because Collab is still the best bet outside of incredibly dire situations.

    Of which we will see no improvements to:

    Our DD Abilities
    Sneak Attack
    Trick Attack
    Anything useful combat wise.

    We will get:

    "hate control' Abilities no one will use outside of 5% of situations. Because apparently in FFXI Thiefs should be "hate control experts", you know, something i've never in my life related "THFs" to being.

    Useless abilities that don't work on anything important (See: Despoil)


    I saved THFs a lot of worry :P

    What I would like to see is them both keeping the same timer, but Accomplice get lowered to a 3 minute recast.

    NOW, what I would like to see on separate timers instead are Steal and Despoil - especially now with the trigger system in Dynamis being what it is. I just don't see why Aura Steal got tied to Steal and then Despoil got tied to it and now Ninja it's getting both of its JAs tied together separated while we get stuck with what should be natural for a Thief - taking things we want - being tied together. Especially since one JA is Lv5 while the other is Lv77.

    It would also be nice if someone took the time to go back through the steal and despoil tables and see what, if anything, should be added/changed for all the monsters in the game. There are a lot of new items that have been added since Steal first came to be.

    Finally, can we do something with Mug? Maybe a new JT to add damage to it at a higher level or at least decrease the timer to 10 minutes? I've equipped the Assassin's Bonnet every time when I use this ability and even still, I'll mug for 1 gil sometimes. 1 gil every 15 minutes when I can't even mug everything seems a bit odd. At the very least, maybe an explanation as to why this was done so we can at least understand where the developers are coming from on it.

    i personally wasn't too pleased with the thf update. range increase is ok i guess, but would be better if they were on separate timers and maybe drop accomplice to 2min?

    i've said it numerous times and will continue to say it as well: REDUCE THE RECAST ON STEAL TO 1 FREAKIN MIN!!!!!
    it just retarded... how many real thieves have you ever seen steal something, then wait 5 min before putting something else in their pockets... seriously SE this is just redundant. not even going into despoil as it's useless until it's made a 30 sec ability which you can choose the effect given, and is unlinked from steal. then perhaps it'll be worth discussing.

    while we're at it drop mug to 5 min as well, just make it where you can't mug the same mob twice. nobody is getting rich mugging NMs, even in sky, it's just not happening. any gear worth buying on ah is usually expensive enough that mugging NMs for gil to get them would be a waste of time. also making it work in abyssea by stealing cruror would be helpful as well (again, 2-3k cruror from an NM isn't game breaking. ppl already can already do that in aby pt's).

    only other thing we need other than what i've stated would be some way to make SA and TA viable options while soloing or tanking. lets face it guys, if you're soloing sleep bolts don't work on everything. maybe for SA make every one landed from the front of mob hit for 1/2 strength and add 5% more dmg to the next one landed behind the mob (up to maybe 25-30%)?
    for TA maybe for every one landed not behind another pt member it could increase your hate lvl and evasion by 5% (up to a max of 25%)? this would do wonders for increasing thf tanking ability and overall dmg output in tanking situations w/o making heavy DD's feel like they've been screwed.
