There is so much wrong with this statement, it is difficult to know where to begin. Generalizations like this are much more offensive than someone trying to talk about a given holiday. Frankly, this response is much more innapropriate in this community than the OP is being accused of.
How often do you get posters from other nations posting about their countries national holidays on non regional forums? How often do you see Americans doing it, all the time. Then they complain about free speech when it's deleted.

which brings false accusations that we as a country are uptight, greedy, self-centered jackasses.
America takes this and pushes upto a whole other level though, hatred for America is pretty universal everywhere you go in the world. I don't know of many first world countries that can commit horrible war crimes and get away with it and their population make so light of them.

Clearly you have no idea what you're talking about. We never pushed any of our holidays onto you, it was you yourself who came and decided "I disagree with everything American and out of self-satisfaction and spite, will spew ignorant, stereotypical nonsense at them."

For the record, I think this was the first post anyone has made about any holiday. Do you think in Japanese, French, or German forums they aren't talking about any of their holidays? I doubt you'll see them arguing with each other about it. Our calendars are chalk full of Canadian and UK holidays, doesn't bother us. If you don't care enough about your own country to want to talk about your holidays then that is your problem. This specific thread wasn't designed to cater to your needs.

Perhaps this thread was here for Americans and people who aren't American but pay their respects to their holiday? Not every thread has to be inclusive of all those who discover it.

I suppose as soon as it's Christmas a misleading thread called "Don't Blink" will say, "because Santa's coming home for Christmas" people ought to start complaining about how not everybody on the forum is Christian.

This is brought to you by a dude who has never stepped foot in America and has the sense to realise that Americans aren't all that bad regardless of their public image and the many idiotic Americans who contribute to said public image. What society isn't made up of what is seemingly 75% moron? 75% of the world's population is made up of idiots.

You don't have to be Christian to enjoy Christmas. You just need lots of money! And booze!

You don't have to be American to honour dead soldiers on an American holiday.

I'm an atheist who celebrates Christmas so I made the comparison bearing that in mind.

Also, I concur, the booze is essential.

Precisely. You don't HAVE to be American to honor those who fought in countless wars, no matter how pointless they might be. Even if it is an American holiday, that gives you no right to criticize us for it. Many soldiers join the military because they have no alternatives to turn to, and are sacrificing themselves to do the deeds of our/their government, not by personal choice, but because they have to. It takes an ample amount of bitterness to be so disrespectful toward these people. And I'm not one to be easily offended, but it pisses me off when someone passes judgment toward Americans without first learning the FACTS about us, rather than blindly spreading their arrogance and hatred towards us.

I, too, am an Atheist born in a Catholic family. I celebrate Christmas because it's a fun holiday that brings the family together. Get trashed, exchange gifts, have great feasts. And then you get to forget about them for the rest of the year! Honestly how awesome is that?

sorry I touched a nerve here. this was meant for US players. It was EXACTLY for what it seems, when you're logging in for whatever on Monday when you normally would be at work/school, or even doing something else, like celebrating your pool being opened for the year it might be nice to remember that you don't have the day off to celebrate THAT. You have it to honor all those who have died in the line of duty. Take a moment.

Either way, this thread is irrelevant and off-topic. You should not have made it solely based on that fact.

Have a Happy and safe Memorial Day America.

To those who are serving their countries in Iraq, Afghanistan and other war theaters around the world, regardless of Nationality, who can't spend the weekends or any time with family and friends or playing FFXI, thank you for your service /salute. I wish you a safe return home.

To the countless millions who have lost their lives in defense of their freedoms and to keep it intact for others, this:

"At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember you."
