You don't have to be American to honour dead soldiers on an American holiday.

I'm an atheist who celebrates Christmas so I made the comparison bearing that in mind.

Also, I concur, the booze is essential.

Precisely. You don't HAVE to be American to honor those who fought in countless wars, no matter how pointless they might be. Even if it is an American holiday, that gives you no right to criticize us for it. Many soldiers join the military because they have no alternatives to turn to, and are sacrificing themselves to do the deeds of our/their government, not by personal choice, but because they have to. It takes an ample amount of bitterness to be so disrespectful toward these people. And I'm not one to be easily offended, but it pisses me off when someone passes judgment toward Americans without first learning the FACTS about us, rather than blindly spreading their arrogance and hatred towards us.

I, too, am an Atheist born in a Catholic family. I celebrate Christmas because it's a fun holiday that brings the family together. Get trashed, exchange gifts, have great feasts. And then you get to forget about them for the rest of the year! Honestly how awesome is that?
