Reflect (the spell) they probably avoided it because of the exploit where you cast it on the party, then nuke the party for multiple times damage on the target!!
As for the OP, great sentiment, wrong forum.

The days of the digital watch are numbered.
If you're not American this thread was clearly not meant for you. Instead of bad mouthing Americans like you all usually do, you should have hit the "Back" button. Even though this is an FFXI forum, this subsection of the forum is called "General Discussion." Just leave the guy alone ffs and let him speak his mind. Honestly show SOME level of maturity.
Everyone hates america, even a lot of americans. If you're not American this thread was clearly not meant for you. This is a general forum about FFXI, not a general general chat forum.
Not so concerned with placement of forum or topic. But I too was miss led by topic name thinking this was about a spell suggestion. If this was intended for Americans and meant to exclude the rest of the world because nothing exists outside of your country the title could have more appropriately been named "Americans Reflect".
Americans hate the American government, not the country itself or the people who reside here. And other countries look at us through a political perspective, which brings false accusations that we as a country are uptight, greedy, self-centered jackasses. Quite honestly, the same can be said about, well, everyone in the world. It's not our fault everyone knows what we're doing, or that we may be the "center of attention" to some. It's obviously just more entertaining watching this country crumble little by little each year to the rest of the world.
Now Mister/Miss 400+ posts, please find something better to do than troll someone else's thread. I'm sure it'll be locked sooner or later anyway.
Edit: For the record I, too, thought that this was going to be about the spell "Reflect" lol. I just can't stand when people bash other countries for no apparent reason. If you seriously can't restrain yourself from making yourself look like an ass, just start your own thread elsewhere about it. Or better yet, just don't do anything at all and accept it as it is.

This is quite incorrect. Not the place for it. Thread should get nuked.
Nothing about decorum, internet or otherwise, states that it is inappropriate for a member of a country to remind people of the reason for a holiday. The OP mentioned it pretained to US players, and did not, in any way, imply that non-US players needed to heed anything that was stated. The wording could have been stronger in specifying, but if one reads the text with an open mind, it is obvious the OP was talking to other Americans. Not everyone who plays this game is American. Not everyone who looks at this forum in the English language is American.
While its nice to show some support to our troops in America, this is not the place to do so.
Additionally, this thread is in the "General Discussion" area of the "Community" board. It is not in Gameplay, Bug-fixes, etc., it is in a place for the "Community" to have "General Discussion." As some of the players are from the US, and it is a holiday weekend in the US, there is nothing inappropriate about this.
It is not the best place to do it, but it is not wrong to do so here. SE wanted to build a place for the FFXI playerbase to keep in touch. This subject is no less relevant than people talking about any other here - a player wanted to say something to other players, who he/she feels a kinship with.
There is so much wrong with this statement, it is difficult to know where to begin. Generalizations like this are much more offensive than someone trying to talk about a given holiday. Frankly, this response is much more innapropriate in this community than the OP is being accused of.Why do Americans think the world revolves around them..
Additionally, this is inaccurately used. If one took the postion that the OP was asking anyone to do anything even remotely akin to "revolving around the US," which is extreme hyperbole, it was only asked of other Americans.
I am not making this argument because I am American, or am I defending the OPs out of any bias. I would not have, personally, posted this here either. What I am making this post for, is because this criticism is unreasonable and unfair.
Also: {Reflect} spell, {Can I have it?}
Nice post Glamdring. I guess the people bashing this thread are showing how UN-rude and UN-ignorant they are? It always amuses me how people bash Americans without really getting to know us. Stereotypes...sad.
Yes, the subject is supposed to be related to FFXI - and granted, the OP was stretching this a bit. The OP was referring to use of recreation time on a holiday weekend (as it is a 3 day weekend for many here in the US). As FFXI is a recreation that many US players may be choosing to take part in with their extra free time, it is related to FFXI in this way. This is a general forum about FFXI, not a general general chat forum.
Basically, the OP could have been saying was "Hey US players, if you use this forum, it is likely you will be using the 3 day weekend to play FFXI. While doing so, please remember the reasons you get that extra day off."
Again, the wording could have been more specific, but it is related in that way.
