I'm new

I'm just starting FFXI but not sure what server to start on, from what I've read Asura sounds like the best one to choose. I also would like to be a summoner later on so I was wondering which job to start with and if any linkshells want to help a newb then I'd be grateful.

If you already decided on Asura, you should try the world form for Asura for linkshell information. Personally I don't believe there's a best or worst server, all servers are more or less the same in terms of population (obviously the newly merged servers will have more members for now, although it will normalize after a while), and population doesn't matter much in the first place. Every server has linkshells that accept new players and help them progress in the game, as well as an endgame-crowd.

i'd start with blm to lvl 18. Then unlock your sub-job. Level up whm from 1-30. Then unlock Smn.

If you plan on being a SMN, /WHM, /RDM, and /SCH are your best friends at level 90. You'll need to unlock those! (also some DD Subjobs but those are entirely too situational to go into >_>)

Secondly, About Asura... Its a decent server, Just don't expect to ever do voidwatch

You kindof need to be tough or get tough to handle this server.

Whilst there are D-bags on Asura and I have only found a few in my higher levels and sitting in Port Jeuno but actually there's some very good folk on Asura and some very decent Linkshells on there. I love my main social linkshell and I love my Abyssea linkshell and all the other linkshells I have that I visit less frequently. I think you'll get D-bags anyway and most of the time I find their pathetic behaviour funny, so I laugh at them. Not laughing with them funny, rather, laughing at them.

I think Asura is a good server, thick skin is needed, granted.


Anyway, welcome! Summoner rocks. Okay, mine is only level 23, but I love inviting them to my parties.

If you do decide to go for Asura, look me up - my Linkshell is awesome, times people are on vary per time zone but it's mostly US and UK folk. People on there are frequently happy to help. I can always pearl you.
