    Download Ultimate edition... Potential hiccups?

Ok, so I'm going to take the plunge and get Abby and figure it's cheaper to get the new version from a reputable download store than to buy them from the Login screen. Do I need to uninstall my disc version of the game first or can I just use the reg codes from the steam version on the copy I've already installed?

I have the old Ultimate Edition. I paid for the Abyssea download from Amazon. All I had to do was enter the registration code into my account and it unlocked the new areas. I was also able to unlock the Destrier Beret for my character at the Festive Moogle in my hometown by entering the other code in.

You already are fully patched and have all of Abyssea installed. Therefore there's no reason you'd need to run an installer again. You only need the registration code to unlock the already installed content.

Thanks for the advice... I went ahead and bough via Steam.

I had to start the install in the Steam home screen to get the reg codes (right click on FFXI and there's an option to view them) but I paused it straight away. I've entered the codes via my existing install and got the expansions and shiny hat no problems.
