Why so serious?

In all seriousness, you really are experiencing shitty luck, esp. w/ dynamis and NMs. Some of the ideas I can agree with (weather trials are ridiculous sometimes), but there has to be some sort of challenge in the game. Not everything can be spoonfed to everyone...
Challenge does not equal a massive, outrageous time investment. Challenge means battles that require preparation, knowledge of the game, strategy, and good timing. Killing the same monsters for years to get an item is just a cheap way of artificially extending how long it takes to acquire good gear. It's outrageous and is what stops many people from playing the game. I they should focus on making challenging, interesting encounters to get good gear instead of just making the drop rate so low that people never get items and end up leaving the game or feeling like they can't compete.

I know all you old school players are against this philosophy, but a game should be fun and challenging without making unrealistic demands on your time. I've been playing XI on and off since the US release and I've found it to be better each time because they are realizing how outrageous some of the stuff in the game was and made it a lifestyle and not a video game.
