FFXI Error 30001

Ever since this May 9th update I am no longer able to play Final Fantasy XI with my brother. He has it for the computer and I am using the PS2 version on PS3. Whenever I'm logged in and he tries to log in he gets stuck on the downloading data screen. Whenever he's logged in and I try to log in I freeze at a black screen after i select login with my character. We both get error 30001 server timed out. We are in the same house using the same Comcast internet we've been since 2005 and rouer since 2006. Why is this happening and how can we both play at the same time?
