WEll pretty much we all know this... the game has apparently reached it's limit (thank you PS2) all we get to see is "new" monsters in the same old areas over and over and over again?
Is anyone else getting tired of this?

Obviously many people are, seeing as threads/posts very similar to this one are all over these forums, and new ones keep popping up all the time. :P
All Missions Complete
Captain, Medal of Altana ∮∮∮∮
Unique quests completed: 1063
Records of Eminence completed: 801
And yet no official response from SE...
I personally am ready to quit the game after seeing that this game is now all about "new mobs" in used areas
This has nothing to do with the PS2. It has everything to do with a lack of resources at the disposal of the Development Team. They have to make do with what they have, and release a lot of content on a fairly tight deadline. Reskinning, both monsters and zones, simply saves them a lot of development time.
While I'm definitely in the camp that would like to see new monsters and zones, I believe right now it is simply a matter of balancing originality with actual content. New zones would not be very spectacular if there was absolutely nothing to do in them.
The fact is that Square-Enix, after the 2009 Salvage Bans, made a conscious decision to effectively go "all-in" on their new MMO. That new MMO being an abject failure (to what should be surprising to absolutely nobody), they've had to try to do the best they could with what they had.
Getting rid of the PS2 support ditches much of their core constituency. This game has hit it's limit of practical growth.
One of the reps posted here in this thread on the subject of new areas and/or expansions: HERE
I understand SE's stand point. Currently, they're losing money something awful on FFXIV and the only real cash cow SE still has going for it (at the moment) is FFXI. So, they're focused on improving existing content, expanding on the next nine levels and refining any remaining quirks with the existing content and systems. This is a much more financially sound solution versus investing the time and resources needed to create a fully fledged expansion with new areas.
Don't get me wrong though, I'd love new content, but I understand that currently its just not feasible within their already set timeline. I'm sure some time next year we'll finally get a nice teaser to some up coming expansion once they work out the details. At best I'm expecting an early announcement by summer next year with a release by spring 2013. Worst cast, the first reveal on a new expansion would be winter 2012 with a release in summer/winter 2013.
Play the long game, get into what will likely be new end game by years end and wait for the new stuff. FFXI still has a really long bit of life left in it despite what naysayers might want you to believe otherwise. It still earns SE a mountain of cash, they're not letting it go anywhere. They know we want a new expansion, and it'll happen -- eventually.
10 years ago Squaresoft was great. 10 years ago Hironobu Sakaguchi left Squaresoft. 10 years ago Square's profits were at an all time high. In the last 10 years their profits have done nothing but decline. Coincidence, I think not. Do yourself and the fans a favor SE, bring back Sakaguchi. Bring back the awesome you once had.
Not really. There are still plenty of things to do in FFXI. It's not perfect to be sure, but tell me where you can spend hours everyday afk in Port Jeuno or in Abyssea for a basic (if you have no mules) $12.95 a month. Pretty reasonable I would say.
There is no doubt that there is room for improvement if SE decides in its wisdom to keep moving the game forward. I have a suspicion that they were hoping that FF14 would totally leave FFXI in the dust. It didn't, so now they have to re-work their ideas and plans, hence the new "roadmap" for the coming year or so.
I'll continue to find the joy in playing until I have exhausted every possible thing to do or SE tosses FFXI into the trash can.
People used to say that SE would never raise the level cap. Now they're saying they'll never add new areas or do a new expansion.
I still have lots to do in FF11 that I've yet to do. I'm sure you do too.
Some VERY good points some of you guys made. And well it is clear now that SE sais that this year we wont see anything new, but they left the possibility for the future. Well, I am a story driven person, and once I am done with Wings of the Goddess and Abyssea, there is not much more motivation for me.
While the long game is important so is the here and now. We are the consumers and we play for a variety of reasons. Some for combat, some for gear, others for exploring the world, and some for a storyline. For me I enjoy pretty an awesome storyline, exploration, and graphics (in that order). If it means I have to wait a year for the story to continue or a new storyline then for me it means I will end up looking for stories elsewhere.
